On Tuesday, we are excited to welcome all of our In Person Learning Model students back to the high school together as we return to 5 day a week In Person instruction.  We ask all of our students and families to check for symptoms (including a temperature check) prior to leaving for school.  Students experiencing symptoms should stay at home and attend school remotely (parents/guardians need to call the attendance line still).

Due to next week being similar to a first week of school and a higher percentage of students being dropped off instead of riding the bus, we encourage families to arrive early on campus to avoid the higher amounts of traffic we are anticipating.  As a reminder, students can now be dropped off at any location along our sidewalk near our front entrance or auditorium entrance.

As we begin the school day, we will be reviewing safety procedures and protocols (mask wearing, social distancing, contact tracing sign ins, open campus procedures, etc.) with students.  We will also be sharing with students the procedures for the cafeteria, which include an additional seating area in our auxiliary gym to help with social distancing.

On Monday, we do not have school as we observe the Dr. Martin Luther King Day.  I encourage all of our families to take some time this weekend to learn more about Dr. King, listen to his speeches, watch a documentary about his work, and/or have some family conversations about the progress our country has made along with where we still need to work.  This past year has brought a number of issues related to race back into the spotlight, and having these meaningful conversations with our youth can help prepare them to contribute to creating a better future for our great nation.  Many view MLK Jr. Day as a day on and not a day off using it as an opportunity to engage in community service, learning, and giving back to others.

Go BEES!  Go BROWNS!

Mask Wearing and Mask Breaks for Students
It is very important with all of our In Person students returning to campus that we are consistently wearing masks (covering nose and mouth) when in the building and classrooms.  Inevitably, this will lead to some mask wearing fatigue for everyone.  Students can take a mask break by getting permission from a teacher or study hall monitor and then checking out at the main entrance or auditorium entrance to step outside for a few minutes so they can remove their mask and get some fresh air.

New Air Sanitizing System in Cafeteria
In the near future we will be installing two new Torflo Air Sanitizers in the cafeteria.  Click here to learn about how it will help reduce any potential virus spread.

Please Consider Donating in Support of the BBHHS LLS Students of the Year Campaign!
The LLS Students of the Year campaign is an initiative in which select students from the Greater Cleveland area participate in a fundraising competition in the hopes of finding a cure for patients with blood cancer.  BBHHS Team Pirates of the CURE-ibbean's goal is to raise $50,000 to benefit LLS in the fight against cancer.

Every three minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. More than 1.2 million people are living with or in remission from Leukemia, Hodgkin's disease and Myeloma. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is working everyday towards the goal of a blood cancer free world, and we need you in order to reach this goal.

How can you help? It's simple. Please make a donation to our team's fundraising by using the link below.

BIMAS-2 Winter Screening Window at BBHHS
During the next two weeks between Tuesday January 19, 2021 and Wednesday January 27, 2021, we will be conducting the Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System (BIMAS-2) screener with all BBHHS students.  This assessment is a measure of social, emotional, and behavioral functioning in children and adolescents ages 5 to 18 years.  It scores students on a Behavioral Concern Scale (identifying risks in Conduct: anger management, bullying behaviors, substance abuse, and deviance; Negative Affect: anxiety and depression; and Cognitive/Attention: attention, focus, organization, planning, and memory) and Adaptive Scales (Social: social and communication; Academic Functioning).  This is a triangulated screener, which includes a self assessment, teacher assessment, and parent assessment.  Here is an FAQ document for reference in the meantime.  Students that have been opted out of the screener will remain opted out unless a parent notifies the school that they want their student to participate.  Any new opt out requests should be sent to [email protected].

Quarantine Guidelines Update from the Cuyahoga County Board of Health
Recently, the Ohio Department of Health revised the guidelines for quarantining individuals in K-12 school settings.  The Cuyahoga County Board of Health provided the following directions based on those guidelines:
  • If students/staff are 0 to 3 feet in distance, REGARDLESS of wearing masks, these people still need to quarantine IF exposed to a positive case.
  • If students/ staff are 3 to 6 feet in distance, AND ARE WEARING MASKS THE ENTIRE TIME, they NO longer need to quarantine IF exposed to a positive case.
  • Students in this category would NOT be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities during the duration of what would have been the quarantine period.
  • If students/ staff are 6 feet apart or more, no need to quarantine.
  • This does not apply to lunch or extracurricular activities where masks are not worn or social distancing is not possible.
  • We are still required to do contact tracing on positive cases and it will be done based on the guidance above
