Dear 9th to 11th Grade Families,

We hope everyone is finding their groove as we close the second week of school and we thank our families and students for their individual contributions to a successful opening of LNC’s 2023-2024 school year!

The purpose of this communication is to give families an overview of the nationally-based tests their child may encounter this year at the high school. New to the lineup in 23-24 is the Measures of Academic Progress test, a.k.a. MAP. You are encouraged to read the important information about MAP below the chart.

If you have questions after review, please reach out to assistant principal, Mr. Funchess, at mfunchess@lncharter.org for the PSAT, Pre-ACT or ACT or director of academics, Dr. Graham, at cgraham@lncharter.org for the MAP.

MAP – The Measures of Academic Progress is taken by our freshmen and sophomores and is new to the high school, but not to LNC. Like in elementary and middle school, 9th and 10th graders test on reading and math in three intervals throughout the year.

The MAP’s 43 questions are dynamic, leveling up or down based on the student’s answers to arrive at their precise achievement level. The resulting longitudinal data tells the story of the student’s growth, regardless of their performance level. LNC has frameworks in place to examine each child’s progression data and provide actionable information to the student’s teachers, allowing them to better understand the student’s big picture and adjust instruction for their benefit.

Unlike the “one and done” state-required End of Course (EOC) exams, the MAP assesses the student in multiple skill areas, multiple times throughout the year, returning a more accurate and complete picture of the student’s abilities. This is the ONLY test LNC administers that universally screens our students for the purposes of identifying needed intervention and support. The other national tests discussed here are for college admittance purposes. The MAP is a powerful tool for us to help your child and we appreciate your partnership in supporting it and encouraging your student to do their best so we can understand how to best support them.

The first MAP test date is the morning of Wednesday, August 30. Please ensure your student arrives on time to school, has eaten and is well rested. The winter and spring test dates are TBA.

Important Note: Due to the test administration, juniors and seniors will arrive at school at 11:15am for the balance of their day.
