Preparing our students for tomorrow
through real world experiences today
February 5th-9th, 2018
Principal's Corner:

Dear Students, Parents and Community Members:
The second half of the school year is well underway with staff and students once again actively engaged in teaching and learning. We are excited about the educational challenges that lay ahead of us and know you will continue to assist us in our efforts to make our school the best it can possible be.
We are looking to make our students critical thinkers, diligent researchers, inquisitive readers and prolific writers and most important of all, they need to have critical character skills. It is our school's mission to prepare students to succeed in college and the world by offering high-quality, college-prep, STEM education.
We have another 4 months ahead of us until the end of this year. Surely this time will go very fast. Let's use this given time to reach our smart goals. Please check your child's grades and merit points weekly.
We believe that we can make the year of 2018 a glorious one with your help.

Blendon Woods Hike

Staff and students met at Blendon Woods Saturday morning to participate in the Columbus Metro Parks 45th Winter Hike series. The parks offer 13 different hikes throughout January and February each year. The event draws thousands of people each year. HSA Columbus students are working toward earning a hiking badge from the Metro Parks. The Blendon Woods hike is the 3rd hike we have completed in the series.

This weekend was rather chilly, but the forest trails were beautiful. We traversed along frozen creek beds. Two flocks of wild turkeys were spotted along the hike. Hot chocolate and chicken noodle soup with biscuits were served at the end of the hike.
Contact Dr. Raschke by email at or by phone at 614-428-6564 for information about upcoming hikes.

Hawks Dance

Last Friday we held a school dance for all eligible honorable hawks. All honorable hawks with their spirit bands were able to participate during both elective class periods for that day. Students had the opportunity to report to the gym to dance, spend time with friends, take some selfies...simply have some fun! Many of our teachers and staff joined in on the fun acting as supervisors, rockin' DJs and even hit the dance floor to show their moves.

The Hawk Dance was a success and students enjoyed being rewarded for hawk behavior. Students who are Hawks are students that show exemplary behavior and do the following each day: Honor diversity, Accountability, Willingness, Kindness, and Safety

We are proud of all of our students and hope that everyone gets a chance to be a hawk. Thanks to the  teachers and staff who made this activity possible!

Return of the Open Mic Night

After a successful Open Mic Night in October Mr. Spottswood and our wonderful staff have done it again! Parents, staff and students showed their support January 31st by joining us in celebrating the arts. Open Mic Night is a great opportunity to provide students an opportunity to showcase their talents while bringing the families out to support their children. With performances in dance, rap, and musical instruments our students had a great time expressing themselves through the arts.

Some of the highlights of the night was a keyboard performance by  and an original rap by . We were also delighted with Mr. Spottswood's surprise violin solo. Teachers, parents and alumni raved about the program and showed their interest in attending future events.
Thank you to all staff who knowingly and unknowingly have encouraged a student to let their light shine!
