Welcome October!

We begin with sincere thanks to Joe Dan Rowland, who has stepped down from the HSB POA Board. Joe Dan gave his time and thoughtful service to our community, and we are grateful for the contributions he made during his tenure.

We are pleased to welcome Sueanne Kyle to the Board. Sueanne has stepped forward to fill the vacant seat, and we appreciate her willingness to serve Horseshoe Bay.

At its September meeting, the Board also approved the budget for fiscal year 2026–2027. The approved budget is available on the HSB POA website. And then effective October 1, the price of a resale packet will increase from $185 to $285, and the fee to stay at the POA Campground will increase from $25 to $45.

September gave us two excellent opportunities to learn more about our community. At our Trails and Parks of Horseshoe Bay presentation, Rick Overholt, representatives from the City of Horseshoe Bay, and Mike Riley, Vice President of Horseshoe Bay Nature Park, shared useful information about the places we enjoy and the work behind them. If you missed it, here is a link to recap the event, including the presentation.

We also welcomed the City’s well-attended Town Hall at Quail Point Lodge, where HSBay City staff walked residents through the comprehensive plan. We appreciate the knowledge, hard work, and openness they bring to Horseshoe Bay. Here is a link to the city's plan.

October brings a full calendar to Quail Point Lodge. Community Education continues on Thursday, October 1, with Drought Strong and Color Rich: Native Plants in HSB. On Wednesday, October 14, Certified Arbor Care will present Tree Care in the Texas Hill Country.

Please mark your calendar for our Fifth Annual Fall Fest and Chili Cook-Off on Thursday, October 22, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. Returning chili champions are already signed up to compete, and we have room for two more cooks. If you would like to enter, reply to this email, and we will be in touch. The Mini Market will fill Quail Point Lodge with vendors and shopping, and the Ricky Adams Band will begin playing at 4:00 p.m. Come for the chili, stay for the music and dancing. Everyone is invited.

We will close the month with Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Our candy drive runs from October 14 through October 29. Please bring individually packaged candy to the POA office, and we will share it with the children who come to celebrate with us.

We look forward to seeing you throughout October.

💸 Tired of watching your water bill climb every time the sprinklers run?

👉Vicki Adcock’s seminar, Drought Strong and Color Rich: Native Plants in HSB, will show you how to create a beautiful landscape that needs less watering.

🌿RSVP by replying to this email, and we will have a spot for you.

For Joni Thomas, moving to Horseshoe Bay was not an impulsive decision. It was the destination she and her husband, Gary, had in mind for years. She came from Odessa and lived in Dallas for 29 years, during which time she built a career in dermatology and medical aesthetics that has now lasted over four decades. At North Dallas Dermatology Associates and Austin & Reddick Dermatology, she worked with respected physicians and a wide range of clients, including several well-known figures in professional sports.

Joni never depended solely on experience. She earned more than 25 professional certificates and received further training in New York City, California, Texas, and Arizona. Her qualifications include medical skin treatments, laser treatments, microneedling, facials, skincare products, and almost every area involved in running a successful medical spa. The recommendations about Joni show how highly her work is regarded. Previous physicians relied on her judgment when choosing the right treatments for their patients, and one mentioned that Joni was often invited to medical meetings to educate doctors on new products, treatments, and equipment. Former clients emphasized something equally important. They praised her punctuality, honest explanations, and ability to make people feel comfortable and cared for. The letters consistently show that Joni combines extensive technical knowledge with a calm, personal approach that earns lasting trust.

Even though Odessa was their home, Joni knew the Highland Lakes from a young age. Since she had relatives at both Lake Buchanan and Lake LBJ, she and Gary had spent many years coming to the area. Because Gary enjoyed golf and they both liked the Hill Country, Horseshoe Bay always seemed like the place where they would finally settle. After the COVID pandemic, they thought it was time. Joni and Gary moved here full-time in 2021 and soon found the welcome they expected.

“Everyone here is so welcoming and friendly,” Joni said. “We can’t imagine being anywhere else.”

Because of her professional experience, she was perfectly suited to take a position with Par 3 Aesthetics & Wellness; today, Joni serves as spa director and medical aesthetician and handles much of the day-to-day operations while still working closely with clients. She has also watched Par 3 grow from its earlier Cottonwood Shores location into an expanded business in Horseshoe Bay. During our conversation, Joni walked me through the services now available, and the list is impressive. Par 3 brings skincare treatments, advanced aesthetic procedures, salon services, massage, Pilates, and additional wellness services together in one location.

What stood out most was the emphasis on customization. Joni explained that treatments and services are selected based on each client’s individual needs, goals, and comfort level. No standard approach is expected to work for everyone. That philosophy fits naturally with the way Joni has cared for clients throughout her career. She is just as enthusiastic about Par 3 owner and medical director Dr. Julia R. Kellcy, who is also a member of the Horseshoe Bay POA. Joni said that Dr. Kellcy was amazing and that Par 3 is an excellent place to work.

For Joni, working in Horseshoe Bay feels much more personal than her years in Dallas. She has the opportunity to know clients as neighbors and to become part of the community she serves.

Her connection to the community doesn't end with Par 3; Joni serves on the boards of both the Horseshoe Bay Business Alliance and the Horseshoe Bay Cultural Enrichment Society. She also likes to travel and recently shared some excellent stories from her visits to Italy. Joni could easily measure her career through years of experience, certifications, or the prominent clients she has served. After spending time with her, however, it becomes clear that she measures it through relationships. That is what makes this chapter at Par 3 so meaningful. Joni has brought more than 40 years of knowledge to Horseshoe Bay, but she has also brought the warmth, judgment, and personal care that former colleagues and clients have praised for years.

After nearly three decades in Dallas, Joni has found a place where her work and her community truly meet. She is grateful to be here, and Horseshoe Bay is lucky to have her. Par 3 Aesthetics & Wellness is located at 7401 FM 2147, Suite 200, in Horseshoe Bay. Free consultations are available.
