- (June 3, 2018) - The Humane Society of Charlotte (HSC) Petco Adoption Center will temporarily close beginning June 4. It will reopen on September 1, after the Petco store renovations have been completed.
Sponsored by the Petco Foundation, our HSC Petco Adoption Center supports our mission to be a community resource committed to delivering effective, innovative services that strengthen the human-animal bond and improve the lives of companion animals and the people that care about them.
Opened in 2016, our Adoption Center in Huntersville allows HSC to shelter additional adoptable cats and dogs, while providing a convenient adoption location to the Huntersville community. The Adoption Center typically houses 15 - 20 animals at a time and has helped re-home more than 1600 animals in the last two years.
To provide families with the same access to adoptable animals, we invite the Huntersville community to visit our main shelter in Charlotte at 2700 Toomey Avenue. All animals from the Adoption Center will be moved to our Charlotte location on June 4, 2018.
This temporary closure comes at the height of kitten season here in Charlotte. The Petco Adoption Center plays a critical role in helping us place hundreds of homeless kittens that come into the Charlotte shelters each year. We are seeking local businesses interested in partnering with us to house adoptable cats and kittens. These additional locations will allow the cats and kittens to receive the exposure they need to find permanent homes.
HSC also needs individuals and families to provide foster homes for our cats and kittens that are not yet ready for adoption. Foster families are vital to our mission at HSC and help us prepare young, shy, senior or any animal best suited to a quieter environment find their confidence and become ready for adoption.
