As many of you know, Milo the four-year-old Shih Tzu came to HSLM in September. Milo was surrendered to HSLM, with a serious injury to his front right elbow. After his initial assessment, our Veterinarian partner recommended that we amputate Milo’s front right leg.
We shared Milo’s story with you in the hope that with your generous support we would financially be able to help us complete Milo’s surgery. We had an outpouring of love and support and were able to successfully fundraise the amount needed to complete his amputation.
Stories like Milo’s are not uncommon at HSLM. Many animals that are surrendered to HSLM require emergent medical care or have sustained illness; some for a prolonged period of time. We recognize that in times of emergency, some may not be able to financially afford treatment for their pets or cannot cope with the rehabilitation needed. When all other options are exhausted, HSLM is there to provide shelter and services to those animals.
However, in order to continue to do this great work and take on these difficult cases we rely on the support of YOU, our generous donors. Your dollars directly affect the work that we are able to achieve at HSLM. From standard spays and neuters to complicated surgeries that all change the lives of the animals who are sheltered at HSLM.
Every single dollar has the ability to create change for these pets.

Milo's transformation over the past 4 weeks has been incredible. Once suffering from a severely fractured leg joint and struggling to walk around, this 4-year-old Shih Tzu is now happy, mobile and pain-free. Milo is ready for the next 'leg' of his journey in a new home, we are so excited for his adopter to experience the joy that Milo has brought to HSLM.
HSLM does not receive government funding at any level, and therefore we rely solely on the financial contributions of individuals and corporations in our community who believe in our mission and the incredible work that we do.
