Aside from being a television icon, Betty White was well-known for her devotion to animals. She dedicated much of her time elevating animal welfare and raising money for animal shelters, rescues and organizations.
The #BettyWhiteChallengeis a virtual event that will be held on January 17, 2022 (this would have been the late actress' 100th birthday). The movement is encouraging fans to donate $5 or more to an animal shelter in her memory.
In the introduction to her 2011 book “Betty & Friends,” she wrote that both her mother and father “were genuine animal nuts, and I am eternally grateful that they have passed much of that passion on to me.”
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Betty was once asked what gifts she most loved giving. Her answer wasn’t surprising: “money to my favorite animal charities.”
"Merlin has settled in, and is really opening up! He has come a long way in the short time we have had him. Every night he lays with us, and rolls on his back to get a tummy rub."
