Can you count out 100 of your favorite snacks, without eating a single one? First grade students in Mrs. Stacie Love’s class were champs at this, and even counted for over an hour as they used snacks as manipulatives to build math skills. Parents and partners donated various snacks for the lesson, so that students had multiple options. They chose snacks in groups of ten, and used ten groups of ten snacks to create concrete models for counting up to 100 and by multiples of ten, addition and subtraction by tens, comparison of numbers and quantities and more. Dancers in the HSWCHS Dance Program are giving poetry life through choreographed dance, as part of a “Poetry in Motion” assignment. The Student Choreography Showcase I: Poetry in Motion presentation will highlight many of the final dance projects created on March 14 at 1:30 and 6:00 p.m. at the HSWCHS Mackey Auditorium. The HSWCHS Dance Program is among only three programs in Arkansas that are Institution Members of the National Dance Education Organization and one of three secondary programs with a chapter of National Honor Society for Dance Arts. Bank OZK of Hot Springs graciously donated Dr. Seuss books to kindergarten students at our Langston Elementary Leadership Academy as part of continued efforts to support the Hot Springs community. In all, 88 books and snacks were delivered by bank representatives. Principal Ellars oversaw the delivery and presentation to all Kindergarten students across classrooms. See full story.

The Hot Springs Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) was established in 1939. The NHS is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. See all names, here.
This week’s shoutout goes to our Park Magnet School staff members who have been super positive and helpful all week during massive staff absences due to widespread flu and illness. They also still managed to have incredible growth in MAP reading scores in all K-2 classrooms. I am SO proud of this staff and our students. I also want to share an anonymous shoutout from our staff to Ms. Holder and Mrs. Cox as follows: “Langston’s Ms. Holder and Mrs. Cox rendition of Dr. Seuss Wocket in My Pocket!!!!” See full shout out.
