HT Receives $75,000 Grant For
Viaer Alumni Hall Restoration
Huston-Tillotson University was the recipient of grant funding from the National Trust for Historic Preservation to help provide upgrades to a historic building on the East Austin campus.
From over 500 applications, HT was one of only 40 entities to receive funding. The $75,000 grant from the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund will go toward restoration of windows and wood elements of the Anthony and Louise Viaer Alumni Hall.
Formerly the Administration Building, it was constructed in 1914 with bricks manufactured by Huston-Tillotson students. Named after an alumnus of the University and 1958 graduate who gave a $1 million scholarship opportunity to University students, Viaer Alumni Hall was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
