Huston-Tillotson University Accreditation Reaffirmed by SACSCOC

Huston-Tillotson University has received reaffirmation of its accreditation status by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

The announcement confirms HT has complied with the commission’s standards contained in the Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement and with the policies and procedures of the commission.

SACSCOC reported no findings in reaffirming the accreditation status of Huston-Tillotson University for the next ten years.

HT Choir, Jazz Ensemble Perform

At Holiday Concert

An exciting night of music was presented during Huston-Tillotson University's annual 'Celebrating The Season' Holiday Concert in the King-Seabrook Chapel.

The Concert Choir, under the direction of Ms. Gloria Quinlan, and the Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. William Oliver, performed classic carols and jazz tunes in the first in-person concert in two years.

President Burnette Selected As One Of Eight Innovative Austinites By Tribeza Magazine

Huston-Tillotson University President Dr. Colette Pierce Burnette was selected as an innovative Austinite by Tribeza magazine.

Tribeza selected Dr. Burnette as one of Eight innovative Austinites Who Defined Our Year. The magazine went on to say "These creatives and community leaders are elevating Austin’s cultural landscape."

Jackson Named Vice President of Institutional Advancement; Honored For Community Service

Linda Y. Jackson has been named Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Huston-Tillotson University, President Dr. Colette Pierce Burnette announced.

“Mrs. Jackson’s 22-year history with the University places her in an IDEAL position to support our current alumni engagement, fundraising, development, public relations, and marketing efforts,” Dr. Burnette said. “I am excited to see how Institutional Advancement will flourish and advance with new initiatives under her leadership.”

In her most recent role as Director for the Center for Civic Engagement and Community Outreach, Jackson advanced the University’s overall mission as a liaison to engage the community to HT’s educational partnerships. Jackson has also served the University as Director of University Relations.

Jackson was also honored for her community service efforts by the Austin Branch of the NAACP.

HT Student Wins Zinda Law Group Scholarship

Congratulations to Huston-Tillotson University student Isaac Okigweh, who won the Zinda Law Group Scholarship.

Each year, the Zinda Law Group awards a scholarship to undergraduate and law students who either show a commitment to pursuing personal injury law or demonstrate a commitment to their communities.

The firm chose Isaac for his commitment to HT and his dedication to the Austin community. Raised by parents who immigrated from Nigeria, Isaac is also an accomplished track and field student-athlete majoring in Mathematics and minoring in Pre-Engineering.

Winter Wonderland Holiday Market This Weekend

Noir Creators Space will host more than 20 local black owned businesses offering but not limited to food and beverage, hair care and beauty, wellness products, educational tools, and more this weekend in the Davage-Durden Student Union on the Huston-Tillotson University campus.

Come enjoy hot cocoa, pictures with Black Santa and shop some of your favorite business. COVID-19 protocols, including face masks, in place.

The event is free and open to the public.
