Miss HT Finishes In Top 5 In
HBCU Campus Queens Competition
Congratulations to Miss Huston-Tillotson University Michéla Walker, who earned 4th runner-up honors in the 36th Annual Competition of Black College Queens, sponsored by the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame.
Michéla earned the honor in competition with 19 other HBCU Campus Queens from around the country.
The event showcased young African American women from HBCUs who hold the coveted title of “Queen” of their institution. The queens were judged in five categories, with the winner receiving an academic scholarship and various gifts and prizes.

Electric Vehicles On Display At HT
Complementing the University’s sustainability efforts, members of EVHybridNoire stopped by the HT campus to introduce the community to electrical vehicles.
EVHybridNoire is the nation's largest network of diverse EV drivers and enthusiasts advancing multimodal e-mobility solutions, and ensuring those solutions are inclusive and equitable. More than ten electrical cars, mostly owned by African American’s, were showcased on campus.

Future Rams To Campus
Fall Preview Day at Huston-Tillotson University provided an opportunity for high school students to visit the beautiful East Austin campus and learn more about how to become a member of the #GeniusGeneration.
Attendees received an intimate look at Huston-Tillotson University, learning about the exceptional degree programs and opportunities that await them. HT faculty and staff interacted with students, providing first-hand knowledge and information on all the great elements the University has to offer to help propel them to career success.

Ambassadors Participate In
Dickey Day Health Fair
Huston-Tillotson University Ambassadors recruited potential residents while representing HT at the Dickey Day Health Fair in Taylor, Texas.
Ambassadors met Dr. James Dickey's son, grandson, and granddaughter at the Saturday event. The Dickey-Lawless Science Building on the campus is named in his honor.

Organizations You Are A Part Of at HT: St. Davis Scholars, HT Track and Field, and also an resident assistant. Career Aspirations: To become a physical therapist. I plan on working with the NBA, NFL, and MLB. From there, I want to own a clinic one day.
What Do You Enjoy Most About HT: The environment. there’s so much camaraderie you would think you never left home.

Who Inspires You And Why: Dr. Abdur Rahma AS Sumait. He gave up the worldly desires (luxurious life) to fund over 500,000 African students to go to school, with half of them becoming doctors and lawyers, built 12,000 wells, and 1000 hospitals. When his time of death was near, he only increased in giving more.
Favorite Food: Anjero. it’s an East African dish comes from the regions of Somali and Ethiopia.
Favorite Hobby: Basketball. Whenever I get a chance, I like to shoot around or play pickup games. It’s a great way to pass time and also get a workout.
Tell Us Something Unique About You: I speak 3 languages.
Words You Live By: “When your aspirations are very high your body will tire in its pursuit.” This just means when you love what you’re doing time flies by so quickly without you knowing

Organizations You Are A Part Of at HT: I am currently serving as Treasurer on the Campus Activities Board and a member of the International Business Honor Society, Delta Mu Delta. Also, I participated in the 2020-2021 Dell Sales Academy where I was the first-place winner.
Career Aspirations: I will begin my career in sales and then segue into marketing. One day, I plan to intersect the skills that I have learned in those two professions and apply them to pursuing entrepreneurship in the Esthetician field.
What Do You Enjoy Most About HT: What I enjoy the most about HT is the family-like environment. All of my professors know me by name and invest time into my education to ensure that I am most academically successful. I also enjoy the unique and lucrative career opportunities that students are granted at this university!

What you enjoy most about working at HT: The family atmosphere and that the university is Christ centered. The willingness of the students to stand up for justice and equality. The campus is small, so you have the opportunity to know and interact with each everyone.

Fondest memory of your college days: A bit nerdy but fighting with Dr. Edmond about getting a “B” in my first accounting exam. Coming from the British system of accounting there are differences in some of the terms used in the US. First and only “B” after that.
Favorite food: Seafood and Jamaican hominy porridge (made with corn and coconut milk; delicious!!!)
Favorite hobby: Watching soccer (correct term, football)
Best Advice For #GeniusGeneration: “Don’t’ count the days, make the day count”. Make full use of the 24 hours given each day, make something productive out of it.
