HPP Phosphopeptide Challenge The Human Proteome Project (HPP) MS-Pillar now extends is Phosphopeptide challenge resource to include affinity capture. Participants are invited to contribute to both phases of phosphopeptide identification methods development by analyzing a set of phosphopeptides by their favorite method and now follow up with an affinity purification step to see improvements in their methods. Read full article here.

7th C-HPP Newsletter highlights 2017 C-HPP activities highlighted in the 7th C-HPP Newsletter: Reporting two C-HPP PIC decisions with respect to future directions of C-HPP consortiums made in HUPO 2017, Dublin: (1) an extension of C-HPP period to 2027: This action was necessary for completion of the human proteome mapping and identification of at least three post-translational modifications of each human protein (2) launch of neXt-CP50 challenge: This aims to discover function(s) of 50 PE1 proteins of unknown functions termed uPE1 by chromosome-centric approach in three years (list of uPE1 is available in neXtProt using SPARQL query NXQ_00022). The 29th HBPP Workshop The 29th HBPP workshop was held on May 8-9 in Adelaide, Australia. 23 speakers and over 40 participants engaged in a rich scientific programme covering various aspects of neuroproteomic research, spanning basic neuroscience, novel proteomic technologies, clinical applications in neurologic and psychiatric disorders, and novel approaches to data analysis. There was a strong translational focus across all contributions, and highlights included an address by Prof. Mark Baker, HPP co-chair, as well as a HBPP panel discussion on international perspectives on the increasing impact of proteomic technologies in the basic and clinical neurosciences. Participants enjoyed some pleasant autumn weather in Adelaide and savoured South Australia’s world famous wines and cuisine. Check out photos from the event here.

Cancer Moonshot News

European Cancer Moonshot Symposium in Lund, Sweden The European Cancer Moonshot Symposium was held in Lund, Sweden on May 23rd. The primary goal of the meeting was to invite and discuss cancer research from the perspective of patients, relatives and friends. Patients and relatives from the US and different parts of Europe shared their stories and experiences with various treatments and cancer forms. Honest and emotional lectures were given on the factual circumstances that a patient and close relatives face when dealing with tough messages, treatments and decisions. Mental trainer, Igor Ardoris, shared his experience of how to deal with these situations, controlling the mind and imagination which can be trained to overcome and ease pain and disease pressure. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and Tata Memorial Centre join the International Efforts in Clinical Proteogenomics Cancer Research The National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Office of Cancer Clinical Proteomics Research, part of the National Institutes of Health, along with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) and Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on clinical proteogenomics cancer research. See full article here.
