Cambridge Isotope Laboratories, Inc. (CIL) is the world’s leading manufacturer of stable isotopes and stable isotope-labeled compounds. CIL specializes in the process of separating stable isotopes from natural abundance and then labeling biochemical and organic compounds with highly enriched, stable isotopes of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen. Totaling more than 11,000 products, the labeled compounds are used in an array of research applications ranging from analytical chemistry to modern diagnostics as well as in commercial exercises, such as in pharmaceuticals and electronics.

CIL’s proteomic portfolio includes peptide synthesis and protein expression starting materials, SILAC and SILAM reagents, QC and quantification kits, chemical tagging standards, and enzymatic labeling reagents. Among the applications, these isotopically labeled products can be used to help improve the qualification and quantification of biomarker analysis in disease presence, progression, and therapeutic monitoring. CIL also offers an array of standards and multi-component mixes/kits for use in other MS omics research (e.g., metabolomics, glycomics) or integrative omics studies.

CIL’s state-of-the-art production facilities are located at the global headquarters in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and the primary production laboratories in Andover, Massachusetts (USA). CIL’s isotope-separation facility, in Xenia, Ohio (USA), houses the world’s largest 13C and one of the world’s largest 18O isotope-separation facilities. This facility also houses the world’s largest commercial D2O re-enrichment columns.
CIL is committed to quality, with cGMP, ISO 13485, ISO/IEC 17025, and ISO 17034 accreditations. We support our customers in pivotal research that is being conducted in laboratories worldwide. If You Missed the Last ECR Online Panel on ‘How to Get Recognized for Your Work'.... We've Got You Covered!

Perseverance and passion are essential ingredients for success but how do you demonstrate that you have them? Our last panel discussion featured Dr. Laurent Gatto (Associate Professor of Bioinformatics, UCLouvain), Dr. Stacy Malaker (Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Yale University), and Dr. Juan Antonio Vizcaino (Scientist and Team Leader, Proteomics, European Molecular Biology Laboratory), who shared insights into managing important career steps and building a successful career in science. Key takeaways included the importance of showcasing expertise beyond academic output, such as public code contributions and collaborative projects. Also, focus on honing technical skills relevant to your projects, and don't underestimate the value of teamwork and collaboration. Networking plays a crucial role, not only in promoting your work, through conferences, social media, or online platforms like GitHub; but it can also be fundamental for leveraging opportunities for professional growth. You can watch this and other webinars here; you can also read Dr Laurent Gatto’s notes here.
The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology announced today that Ileana Cristea, professor of molecular biology and director of graduate studies at Princeton University, will be the next editor-in-chief of Molecular & Cellular Proteomics, one of the society’s three open-access, peer-reviewed journals. Ileana Cristea will begin her five-year term Aug. 12th.

The hallmark update paper each year is the HPP Metrics publication, and is now online, lead by Dr Gil Omenn and the leaders of neXTprot, the Peptide Atlas, the HPP, C-HPP and B/D-HPP: “The 2023 Report on the Human Proteome from the HUPO Proteome Project”

In a new monthly feature within HUPOST, we will be highlighting extraordinary HUPO volunteers who lead and support many of HUPO's various Committees, Initiatives and Working Groups. If you would like to volunteer with HUPO, please connect with the HUPO Office.

HUPO Marketing and Outreach Committee (MOC)
The MOC has been at work developing new ways to promote the HUPO mission, the visibility of proteomics within the scientific community and its popularization among the public, as well as gathering funding support. The MOC has been very successful in networking with other HUPO Committees and Initiatives and using a range of tools and activities. The MOC members are from different fields and backgrounds and at various career stages representing the diversity of HUPO.
Emily Hashimoto-Roth (Co-chair) is a graduate student at the University of Toronto, Canada, pursuing a Ph.D. in Computational Biology and Molecular Genetics under the supervision of Dr. Hannes Röst. Her research aims to leverage mass spectrometry-based proteomics, lipidomics, metabolomics, and computational methods to better understand the onset and progression of gestational diabetes mellitus. Previously, she completed her M.Sc. in Biochemistry specializing in Bioinformatics at the University of Ottawa, Canada, under the co-supervision of Dr. Mathieu Lavallée-Adam and Dr. Steffany Bennett, where her research focused on the application of machine learning algorithms to mine and analyze protein-protein interaction datasets. Her passion for research extends beyond the lab. Since 2020, she has also been a member of the Canadian National Proteomics Network, helping to strengthen the Canadian proteomics field by fostering a welcoming community for researchers of all career stages to meet and collaborate.
The National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Office of Cancer Clinical Proteomics Research (OCCPR) has contracted with Clarivate to conduct a third-party, external evaluation which includes a research survey of the external perception of the Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC) program. The survey is designed to be relatively short and should only take approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete. To complete the survey, please scan the QR code or click here.

Your valued participation in the survey is strictly voluntary and confidential. The goals of the survey are to examine the impact of CPTAC on the broader field of proteogenomics; how the proteogenomic research community perceives the CPTAC program; and to assess the impact that specific CPTAC program components and actions have had on the research community. Your feedback provides a collaborative, shared understanding of program perceptions which enables improvements intended to benefit future CPTAC activities and impact. The research results from the evaluation and survey will be disseminated publicly. A summary of the survey results will be placed on the Office of Cancer Clinical Proteomics public website (proteomics.cancer.gov). In addition, the survey results will be presented at the annual CPTAC meeting.

You may forward the survey invitation/link to colleagues, but we ask that there is no addition or modification to the invitation message. If you have already completed this survey from another list serv we ask that you do not complete it again.
Thank you for your time and participation.
The HUPO Education and Training Committee (ETC) and the Early Career Researcher Committee (ECR), as well as other HUPO Initiatives (e.g. B/D HPP, Single Cell) have been hard at work organizing and providing very helpful and interesting webinars for the proteomics community. Recordings of these webinars can be found on the HUPO website here

If you have any ideas or suggestions for webinar topics, please send an email to the HUPO Office and we’ll be sure to pass them along!
Each month a member of HUPO is highlighted. A diverse group of researchers representing different career stages, disciplines, geographical locations, and ethnicities are invited to submit a profile for the monthly highlight. This initiative will improve visibility of HUPO members, advertise research and enhance the HUPO community. This month we are featuring:
Sheri Wilcox, USA

What is your current position and location?
I am the Vice President, Probe Development and Bioinformatics, at Nautilus Biotechnology. “Probes” are the general term we use for any type of affinity reagent we develop to bind to short stretches of amino acids (typically 2-4) within protein sequences. We have labs in San Carlos, and San Diego, California, and offices in Seattle, Washington.

How did you get started in the field of proteomics?
I knew I wanted to transition to industry when I finished graduate school, where I had focused on protein engineering and kinetics. I also knew proteins were my primary area of interest. I had the opportunity to do my post-doc in the protein science unit at a Pharmacia & Upjohn (since bought by Pfizer), which included proteomics. When I was finishing my post-doc, I reached out to several biotech companies and joined SomaLogic in 2001 and have been involved in developing novel proteomic technologies since.
