HUPO 2023 World Congress
Even though recent temperatures have been very cold in Korea, the HUPO 2023 team are ambitious, passionate, and ready to welcome HUPO 2023 in September when it will be warm and beautiful. Several successful HUPO 2023 Organizing Committee meetings have taken place led by Congress Co-Chairs Prof. Je-Yoel Cho and Prof. Jin Han, and Prof. Youngsoo Kim, KHUPO President. Specific information about travel awards, program, workshop and short courses will be available soon.

Transportation to Busan, Korea
There are many direct flights either directly to Gimhae International Airport (PUS) located in Busan or to the Incheon International Airport (ICN) located in Seoul. It is an easy 45 minute plane ride or 2.5 hour express train (KTX) between ICN and Busan.
Accommodation
There is a wide variety of accommodation options ranging from business hotels to more modest accommodation with >59,000 rooms available in Busan and many nearby the BEXCO. A special link to book accommodation will be provided soon on the official congress website.
Optional Tours of South Korea
In addition to developing a valuable scientific program, the Organizing Committee has been planning a variety of optional half-day tour programs including a yacht tour, a romantic beach train tour on the Busan green railway trail, and a Busan food and beverage tour. Busan is South Korea’s second-largest city and largest port, and it has a wealth of attractions from jaw-dropping temples and bustling markets to spectacular beaches and to-die-for street food and seafood. We have collaborated with the BTO (Busan Tourism Organization) and other government-affiliated institutes for your entertainment and enjoyment.
Finally, the HUPO 2023 team has been working very hard to ensure a memorable experience in Busan. The members of the Executive Committee, the Budget Committee and the Scientific Program Organizing Committee look forward to welcoming and hosting you in Busan.
The HUPO ECR Welcomes Two New Members!

The HUPO ECR is delighted to welcome two new members! Meet Roshan Aggarwal, a Ph.D student at the University of Guelph in Canada and Xiao Lang, a Ph.D student at Westlake University in China. They will contribute to the organization of ECR activities such as congress competitions, mentoring sessions, networking hours, online panel discussions and more. Keep reading to learn more about our new members!
Roshan Aggarwal is a Ph.D. student in Prof. Huiyan Li’s BioMed Innovation Lab at the University of Guelph, Canada. After completing a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Guelph, Roshan became interested in micro/nanofluidics and its application in bioassays and sensors. This interest led his research to focus on designing new high-throughput platforms using microarray bioassays. During his research, he has created highly sensitive platforms for cancer protein and detection in human plasma and serum. He hopes his work will create useful alternative platforms for the identification of markers of disease. After his first HUPO conference in 2022, Roshan became enthralled in the world of proteomics. As a new member of the HUPO community and the ECR committee, Roshan looks forward to supporting the growth of ECR.
Xiao Liang (梁潇) is a Ph.D. candidate at Westlake University, China. Mentored by Dr. Tiannan Guo. His research aims to understand the host responses of COVID-19 and long COVID via multi-omics, where he also applies computational methods to facilitate clinical prognosis. In addition, he is an aficionado of mass spectrometric and cytometric technologies as well as R programming. Apart from his research, Xiao is a volunteer for the HUPO WeChat channel team (ID: HUPO-WeChat). He co-organized the HUPO Reconnect online interview, and routinely serves as a scientific reviewer of Proteomics Timeline, an article collection that introduces proteomics history to Chinese readers. He also writes science blogs on his website: liangxiao.pro. Xiao is the recipient of the Chinese National Scholarship 2019, Westlake Dean’s Award 2021, and HUPO’s Best Posters from Asia 2021.

Each month a member of HUPO is highlighted. A diverse group of researchers representing different career stages, disciplines, geographical locations, and ethnicities are invited to submit a profile for the monthly highlight. This initiative will improve visibility of HUPO members, advertise research and enhance the HUPO community. This month we are featuring:
Theodora Katsila, Greece

What is your current position and location?
I serve as an Assistant Professor and Head of the Biomarker Discovery-Translational Research laboratory at the Institute of Chemical Biology, National Hellenic Research Foundation, Athens, Greece.

How did you get started in the field of proteomics?
This has been love at first sight and ever since. It took place during my placement year at MSD UK when being an Imperial College London undergraduate. At the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics department, I felt ecstatic when involved in LC-MSn method development, optimization and application for a series of proteoforms. From mass spectrometry-based proteomics to multi-omics, I have been hunting brain teasers all along during postgraduate studies and career choices either in academia or industry.
