The HUPO Early Career Researcher (ECR) Committee is excited to announce the call for the 12th edition of the ECR Manuscript Competition, proudly sponsored by Taylor & Francis and held in conjunction with HUPO 2026. The congress will take place from September 27 to October 1, 2026, in Singapore.
This competition is a unique opportunity for early career researchers to showcase their work on an international stage and gain visibility within the global proteomics community. The ECR Manuscript Competition highlights the outstanding scientific contributions of postdoctoral researchers, early-career clinicians, and junior faculty who are shaping the future of proteomics.
Early career proteomics researchers are warmly encouraged to apply with a manuscript that has been published or accepted for publication during the 2025 or 2026 calendar years. Three finalists will be selected and invited to present their work in a dedicated plenary session at HUPO 2026. An expert panel will evaluate the presentations and select the “Proteomics Highlight of the Year” presented by an ECR.
In addition to the opportunity to present at HUPO, the first-place winner will receive a cash prize of USD $1,000, while two runners-up will each receive USD $500.

| | Highlighting a member of HUPO, we invite a diverse group of researchers from different career stages, disciplines, geographical locations, and ethnicities to submit a profile for our monthly spotlight. This initiative aims to improve visibility of HUPO members, advertise research, and enhance the HUPO community. This month we are featuring: | |
Éva Csösz, Hungary
What is your current position and location?
I am a full professor of biochemistry at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Debrecen, Debrecen, Hungary, and I am a visiting professor teaching MSc students at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
How did you get started in the field of proteomics?
I was doing a PhD in molecular biology under the supervision of Prof. Laszlo Fesus, examining the substrate specificity of the transglutaminase 2 enzyme. After obtaining my PhD, I got a job offer in a newly established proteomics lab. Having some experience with 2D gel electrophoresis but no idea of mass spectrometry, I started my journey in the field of proteomics. At the beginning, I was doing 2D electrophoresis and Luminex assays, and gradually, I studied mass spectrometry. Unluckily, after a few months in the proteomics lab, my colleague left, and I was there alone with the mass spec system. It was a very challenging time: I was reading, learning and applying what I learned, maybe a few minutes ago. Although at the beginning I had very little knowledge of proteomics, I tried to share what I knew with colleagues and students, and we were practically learning together.
