Request for Proposals for Pre-Congress Sessions
The Congress Organizing Committee is asking for proposals for session topics to be included in the Pre-Congress program on Sunday, October 20 at HUPO 2024. In total, six sessions (each 90 minutes) will be available and organized in two parallel streams. One stream will be focused on “How to translate proteomic data into biological/clinical insights” and thus we particularly encourage proposals addressing this thematic area.

Please submit a short description of the potential pre-congress session including potential speakers to [email protected] The deadline for submitting proposals is March 29, 2024.

The HUPO Early Career Researcher (ECR) Committee was founded in 2015 and has since actively and tirelessly promoted the transmission of HUPO values to the next generation of proteomic leaders, who are actively involved in many of the varied HUPO initiatives and activities. Mentoring represents the strongest link between generations of scientists, which is why the HUPO ECR, teaming up this year with the Young Proteomics Investigators Club (YPIC) of the European Proteomics Association (EuPA), is pleased to present a variety of awards and activities in conjunction with HUPO’s Annual World Congress.

Sengenics is a functional proteomics company that leverages its patented KREX® technology to develop high-density arrays displaying full-length, correctly-folded proteins. Specializing in the discovery and validation of autoantibody biomarker signatures, we offer both custom and preset panels encompassing over 1800 proteins.

Our protein arrays offer distinct advantages over alternative tools for autoantibody screening, including:

  • Precision: With 90% of humoral antibodies binding conformational epitopes, KREX technology ensures correctly folded proteins for accurate results (see Figure)
  • Reproducibility: Proteins maintain the same orientation across arrays, guaranteeing high reliability and consistency
  • Advanced Analysis: Incorporating modern machine learning and advanced algorithms, our expert bioinformatics team delivers meaningful data

Whether used alone or in combination with other omics, data obtained with KREX technology provides direct understanding of the humoral immune response to aid in identifying disease-associated proteins. These data help translate complex disease profiles into actionable clinical insights for early disease detection, precise patient stratification, accurate prediction of therapeutic responses, and the development of companion diagnostics.

Headquartered in Greater Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and supported by a global network of offices, distributors, and service providers, Sengenics remains committed to advancing personalized medicine worldwide.

KREX protein-folding technology. Every protein is tagged with a biotin carboxy carrier protein (BCCP) that binds to biotin only when correctly folded. The proteins are then anchored to the array surface through a stable biotin-streptavidin bond. Misfolded proteins result in a BCCP that cannot bind to biotin, and are consequently washed away and removed from further analysis.

Speaker: Rosa Isela Gallagher, PhD

Date: Wednesday, March 20, 2024
Time: 2pm PST / 5pm EST / 10pm CET

Webinar Description: RPPA is a high-throughput protein array technology that simultaneously measures hundreds or thousands of samples on glass slides with high precision and reliability, using specific antibodies. RPPA and mass spectrometry-based protein profiling are complementary technologies for protein profiling. In attending this webinar, attendees will learn about RPPA's high-throughput capabilities and laser-captured microdissection technology. They will understand how these technologies precisely measure protein expression, modifications, and phosphorylation in tumor cells.

HUPO Marketing and Outreach Committee (MOC)

The MOC has been at work developing new ways to promote the HUPO mission, the visibility of proteomics within the scientific community and its popularization among the public, as well as gathering funding support. The MOC has been very successful in networking with other HUPO Committees and Initiatives and using a range of tools and activities. The MOC members are from different fields and backgrounds and at various career stages representing the diversity of HUPO.
James Waddington (Chair) is an LC-MS Application Specialist at Agilent Technologies based in the UK. In his role James supports customers across Europe on a range of omics workflows relating to Life Science research. Having completed his PhD in Clinical and Molecular Pharmacology at the University of Liverpool, focused on the field of immunopeptidomics, James moved to Ireland to work under the supervision of Professor Stephen Pennington at University College Dublin (UCD). Soon after, James managed strategic research agreements and led product development within Atturos Ltd., a clinical diagnostics company developing the next generation of molecular diagnostic tests. Using Agilent LC-MS to develop Atturos peptide biomarker panels directed him to his current position within Agilent, where he relocated back to the UK in early 2023. James has been an active member of the MOC since December 2019, where he has taken the position of co-chair, in addition to sitting on the board of directors for the British Society for Proteome Research (BSPR).
The HUPO Education and Training Committee (ETC) and the Early Career Researcher Committee (ECR), as well as other HUPO Initiatives (e.g. B/D HPP, Single Cell) have been hard at work organizing and providing very helpful and interesting webinars for the proteomics community. Recordings of these webinars can be found on the HUPO website here
