Dear HUSD Community,
The 2017-18 school year has come to a close and I’m honored to have served my first full year as superintendent of HUSD. I am proud that in just one school year we came together to pass the Visual and Performing Arts Master Plan; that the board passed a resolution in support of our African-American students and their academic achievement; that our high schools debuted new athletic fields, which will instill a source of pride in our students; that we broke ground on our science, technology, engineering, arts, and math buildings; and that we’ve become a national model for our approach to parent engagement. These achievements are the result of a community effort and I thank you all for your commitment throughout the year.
This summer, our efforts to provide improved services to our staff and families will continue. We have now begun the process of redesigning our school websites to better reflect each schools’ strengths and achievements. Additionally, we’ll be working with various stakeholders to design a marketing and outreach campaign that showcases the programs offered throughout the district.
Congratulations Class of 2018! Our Made in Hayward students are headed to UCs and CSUs, to prestigious universities across the country, and to community colleges throughout California. We celebrate our young scholars’ accomplishments and the guidance provided by teachers, families, and counselors along the way. Have a wonderful summer!
