Administrators and families from the Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) are attending the Community Schools Forum in Baltimore, MD this week and making a huge impact. The national conference focuses on convening practitioners, families, policymakers, and others committed to working across boundaries of race, class, and religion to build meaningful partnerships that benefit schools.
HUSD Superintendent Dr. Matt Wayne received the Superintendent Leadership Award at a breakfast attended by hundreds of conference participants. During his acceptance speech, he asked the audience to help share a message for our “Made in Hayward” students. Dr. Wayne received national recognition for the district's community schools approach and for building meaningful partnerships with local agencies.
Parent ambassadors also formed part of the delegation attending the conference this week. True to their roles as ambassadors, they have been connecting with other families from across the country, attending workshops, and participating in school site visits in the Baltimore area. Our parent ambassadors, along with staff from our Student and Family Support Program department, led a workshop on our award-winning two-generation approach to family engagement and on our parent ambassador program.
