Please do not attempt to call your child out of school. If your child needs to leave due to a doctor appointment or court appointment that can be verified by official paperwork, either an email or handwritten note, with parent signature, should be sent to the front office secretary. A student will be treated as truant if he or she leaves campus without following proper procedure.

Veterans Day Assembly
Every year on/around Veterans Day we host an assembly to honor those in our community who have served and sacrificed their lives to support and defend our country. Unfortunately, we were unable to host this event last year due to Covid, however, we are going to make it happen this year. On the day of this event, we are going to be serving snacks and drinks like veggies, crackers, juice, etc. Guests will have the opportunity to meet many students from the school and meet the administration in the building.

On behalf of the students and staff at Florence Jr/Sr High School, we formally invite you to attend Florence Jr/Sr High School’s 2nd annual Veterans Day assembly on the day of November 9th, 2021 at 2:00 pm. Please contact Mr. Lee at [email protected] if you have any questions.

All juniors will take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) as well as any senior who would like to retest from last year who are in need of completing their DOC’s (Demonstration of Competency in Math and English). Please contact the counseling office with questions about the test and/or DOC’s, or email [email protected] or [email protected] with questions. Results will be released around December 2021.

Graduation Requirements-
Community Service- grades 9-12
All grade levels of students are being asked to complete, within the year, 10 hours of community service. Newly updated forms will be emailed to students or can be picked up in the counseling office. Please see Mrs. Henker for opportunities to serve in the community to complete the required hours as a list will be posted.

Demonstration of Competency- 12th grade
Many parents and students have questions regarding this new requirement. Many seniors have already met their competency as it will be reflected in their transcript report listed as Dem of Comp- Math and Dem of Comp- Eng and the student receiving .5 credit for each added to their credits. The counseling department has been making phone calls home and meeting with seniors/parents to create an option plan of how to achieve this new requirement if it has still not been met. Please see the district website, handbook or the counseling page for full descriptions and options to meet this requirement. If you have further questions please feel free to call the counseling office

ACT Work Keys test- Offered to all Juniors and Seniors
ACT WorkKeys is an assessment that tests students' job skills in applied reading, writing, mathematics and Essential Skills. Scores are based on job profiles that help employers select, hire, train, develop and retain a high-performance workforce. This test will also help seniors and juniors meet new graduation requirements with qualifying scores. Please check the district Calendar for the Future date in late Nov. Early December 2021.

Home Grown Talent Initiative
Home Grown Talent Update
A group of students hit the streets with Mrs. Henker and Mr. Melendrez this month to talk about the Husky Graduate Profile and how our school is preparing them for life after graduation. Many of our local businesses now have a copy of our Husky Graduate Profile proudly displayed along with a Husky Flag in support of our school and students.

We are now offering a Career Exploration class that we have dubbed “Husky 101” for 7th and 8th grade students. This course helps middle school students learn about themselves and opportunities after high school. The goal of this class is to prepare students for success at Florence Jr/Sr High School and provide students with skills to be used across subjects and outside of school.
PaICE
First semester placement students are getting settled into their internships. Students meet with Mrs. Henker weekly to check-in and reflect on what they learned that week. We are also meeting with students wanting a second semester placement to add business partnerships if needed. Interested students should contact the College and Career Coordinator, Mrs. Henker, in the FJSHS Counseling Office.
