Message from Mr. Melendrez

Husky Nation,

I want to reiterate how proud we are of our students as we had a successful opening to the 2021-22 school year. I want to thank all our staff, students, parents, custodians, tech, food services, coaches, transportation, counselors, secretaries and everyone involved in opening the first few weeks of school. Husky Nation came out STRONG and has never stopped working for our community and students. Their hard work, dedication and focus on starting the year off right has given us the opportunity to set our students up for success. Husky Nation doesn’t complain or make excuses, we only provide positive results!

Our theme this year has been to HEROS WANTED and your RE-2 family has shown up in full force for your children’s education. I’m a proud Principal of a staff, a community and a student body who believes in being solution oriented and setting the highest standard for FJSHS. Thank you for believing in HUSKY PRIDE and striving for greatness.

NEVER FORGET PACK MENTALITY

Sincerely,

Principal Melendrez

BELL SCHEDULE
Athletics and Activities
Fall Sports are back at Florence JR/Sr high School and it feels soooooo good. Athletes and coaches are hard at work grinding everyday to win the gold and stand on top of the podium at the end of the year. Athletes that are late adds or that have just signed up remember that you cannot start practice or compete in competitions until the office has your current physical paper for the current year, your emergency contact blue card filled out and the sports registration packet filled out. Also remember athletes to be mindful in checking your grades everyday and connecting with your teacher to address failing grades, ensuring you are eligible to compete for competitions.. Huskies take pride not only being elite athletes but also in being intellectual scholars.

Please check our Athletic Facebook page to see the sports competitions we have on tap for the month of September.

Home Grown Talent Initiative
Home Grown Talent Update
Welcome back to another exciting year! We are entering our third year of the Homegrown Talent Initiative whereby families, schools, businesses, and higher education come together to support student passions and community engagement. Our academic and career and technical education pathways are stronger than ever. We have over 20 students enrolled in Friday Courses at PCC and are currently registering students for college credit in our Concurrent Enrollment courses. PaICE, our student internship and work study program, is off and running and provides students with an opportunity to experience work based learning in a career of their choice. Perhaps most exciting of all, we will welcome a new College and Career Coordinator to our team after Labor Day. If you or your student is interested in any of these opportunities please have them contact their counselor or our new team member.
PaICE

Professional and Internship Community Experience (PaICE) provides Junior and Senior students the opportunity to earn high school credit through internships or work-study. PaICE students spend part of the school day on the job site working closely with professionals to learn the functions of a chosen real-world career interest. Interested students should contact the College and Career Coordinator in the FJSHS Counseling Office.
Boys & Girls Club after school program at Florence Jr/Sr High will begin Monday, August 30th! The Club is open to all 7th-12th graders, after school till 7pm, Monday-Thursday. Register your student for this quality experience: homework help, building positive relationships, leadership opportunities, career exploration, and FUN. Learn more at www.bgcfremont.org. Cost is $25 for the whole year, and scholarships are available.
