After hearing Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett's call for more permanent supportive housing for homeless veterans, HVAF took action.
After repurposing eight of HVAF's housing properties, The Indianapolis Housing Agency awarded the organization with vouchers in order to make the properties permanent homes for veterans and their families.
Last week, the first veteran moved into one of HVAF's permanent housing units
: Valerie Morris - along with her daughter and two grandkids. In addition to a permanent home, Valerie and her family will still receive case management and rental assistance from HVAF.
"I'm happy ... we've been homeless for about four months," Valerie said. "I'm so thankful and blessed."
