[Washington, DC – January 27, 2023] Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonas Nguh PhD, RN, FACHE as the new Executive Director. He will assume this position on February 1, 2023.
 
As the organization’s chief executive officer, Dr. Nguh will oversee the administration, growth, and development of HVO’s programs, finances, and administration. He will develop and implement strategic plans, manage fundraising, communications, and strategic partnerships, and advocate for the organization’s mission and work.
 
Dr. Nguh is a global health scholar and practitioner with a focus on strengthening health systems for maternal and infant health in Sub-Saharan Africa. He has taught in more than 20 countries and is a visiting lecturer at six international universities. Before joining HVO, he served as Executive Dean for the School of Health Professions at the University of Providence in Montana. He holds a PhD in Public Health, a Master of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Dr. Nguh has been honored with 13 awards for public health, community service and volunteerism. He has served on several editorial boards including Journal of Transcultural Nursing, Nurse Education & Practice, and Journal of Complexity in Leadership and Management. He is also currently the associate editor of the Journal of Interprofessional Education & Practice.

Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO) is dedicated to improving the availability and quality of health care in resource-scarce countries through the training, mentorship, and education of local health professionals. Since 1986, HVO has relied on establishing equitable partnerships with hospitals, universities, medical institutes, and Ministries of Health to realize its mission. HVO’s programs utilize highly skilled health professionals as short- and long-term volunteers providing both in-person and virtual training, as well as provide scholarships for on-site clinicians to attend international continuing education opportunities. HVO volunteers provide training on average to over 3,100 health professionals each year across 18+ specialties and 23+ countries. Around the world, HVO is transforming lives through education, working towards a world where all people have access to high-quality health care delivered by local health professionals.
