Lunch Clubs Galore!

For many of us, a new year inevitably brings attempts at challenging ourselves to try something new. And if any of you want your kids to step outside of their regular routines at school, you're in luck! Did you know both View and Valley have many wonderful Lunch Clubs sponsored by HVPTO? Some of our amazing teachers, along with the help of Principal Gluck and Principal Taylor, have come up with a wide variety of enjoyable and engaging activities for our kids to partake in as an alternative to the usual playground offerings.

All of the clubs align with HVPTO's official mission, which includes creating fun, meaningful experiences for all students through special events and activities. HVPTO funds grants, special projects and a long list of extras throughout the year, but the lunch clubs are some of our favorites. We are grateful to our participating teachers that think outside of the box to come up with new and entertaining clubs that are sure to appeal to kids with all sorts of interests.

Any burgeoning techies out there? The always dynamic and lively Ms. Gill and Mr. Kaplan both open up their classrooms during the week. Have a bookworm at home? Well, both the View and Valley libraries are open during lunch. View also hosts Coloring Club, Puzzle Club, Card Game Club, and the always packed Lego Club. Valley's 4th and 5th graders can build with Legos or Lincoln Logs (remember those?!), get creative with arts and crafts or test their knowledge with educational computer games. And the 5th graders have Mrs. Spann's class for the always popular Harry Potter club. Offerings for middle schoolers include Mrs. Infusino's Creative Club, Makerspace Club with Ms. Bell, Card Games with Ms. Lee, Book Club with Ms. Snyder, Ms. Fuller's Drama Club, and Board Game Club with Mr. Coleman.

Take a moment to discuss the available clubs with your child so they don't miss out. And be sure to thank our teachers when you see them for taking the extra time to ensure all our kids are happy and engaged during lunch.

HVPTO NEWS
Big Ideas In Action

In last year's Big Idea Contest we heard from students about what they wanted to see on their campuses. We received so many good ideas, narrowed them down, and selected winners at both schools.

Hermosa View had 2 ideas funded earlier this year. The first was two new iPads for the Sparks Lab so Ms. Gill can do more STEM lessons with our kids. The second project was bringing tetherball back to the View playground. Each project exercises different parts of our students, their minds and their bodies!

At Hermosa Valley, we heard from students about the need to lock up their scooters and skateboards, especially from the 4th & 5th graders that don't have lockers. With the help of Principal Taylor who found a solution, HVPTO was able to purchase three SkateTowers for students to lock up their skateboards and scooters! Maintenance installed the towers this week and they're ready to go, just bring a lock to ensure your skateboards & scooters stay safe while school is in session.

VALLEY NEWS
Middle School Band's Sax Section

The saxophone section of the Hermosa Valley Band has been playing for many years together.  Jack Barrera & Alfie Blockney, the "new" kids, have been playing together for 2 years, Agatha Hanson, Cole Thomas & Alec Treyvaud have been in the band for 3 years while Vanessa Conde and Bella Sardana are 4 year veterans of the sax section. It's a tight group that gets along and stays in tune.

According to Cole, "playing music with your friends" is the best thing about band. Bella enjoys the "band's sense of humor" and they all agreed that playing together is "fun", especially at the Flag Ceremonies where they hope to encourage others to join band by performing in front of the school.

As always, parents throughout the South Bay are welcome, and there is no fee to attend. Please REGISTER in advance to reserve your spot and for further information on the panel.
