Beginning January 1, 2025, children who are fully eligible for Medicaid or subsidized Child Health Plus (CHPlus) will receive continuous eligibility, regardless of a change in income, through the end of the month of the child’s sixth birthday.
Children under age six who are enrolled in subsidized CHPlus with a monthly family premium contribution will maintain their current family premium contribution amount, even if changes are reported which would otherwise increase the family premium. Subsidized CHPlus children under six will also maintain their CHPlus enrollment even if they obtain other health insurance coverage, access, or enrollment in the New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP), or other public minimum essential coverage, other than Medicaid.
Continuous eligibility for children under age six will prevent gaps in coverage, improve continuity of care, and promote health equity throughout New York State. The goal is that uninterrupted access to healthcare will keep children connected to coverage and essential care during their formative years, including important preventive and primary care services that are detrimental if missed.
