Happy New Year!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful break and is ready to have a great start to 2020. The ending of a year and the start of another provides a wonderful opportunity to reflect and identify new goals. I encourage you to talk with your students regarding their academic goals. Perhaps, together, you can make your own educational resolutions for the remainder of this school year.

Report Card Distribution
Report cards for the second marking period will be distributed January 14th. This is a great time to review your child's progress and discuss their academic goals and accomplishments.  Please take a moment to review your child's report card and ensure they are prepared for the upcoming marking period.

Friday's Motivational Moment!

DON'T MAKE NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS - A REMINDER!

Any serious change you want to make in life requires some momentum plus determination to build on it. Unfortunately, the expectations most people apply to New Year's resolutions come with a kind of "officiality" that can make them pretty intimidating. The problem is too many people look to make a fresh start on January 1st each year with a  lot riding on this one day. And frequently if there is a slip on January 15th, we give up. Better luck next year!

Another more practical approach to making successful life changes is based upon the "Week Game" - taking a look back every Saturday as the week ends and another is about to begin. Here you consider the past seven days as to your progress. For a student it might mean reviewing how many days you arrived at school on time, how you did on any quizzes or tests, how much exercise you got, how much time was spent reading for pleasure, how much practice you did on your instrument or for your sport or time with your club. The main thing is that each fresh week represents a ministart that down the line can lead to a big end!

These words are searched very heavily on Google at New Year's . . .

Using a Week Game vs. setting New Year's resolutions once per year will give you more energy and purpose. And most importantly, it will stop you from giving up. You don't have to use Saturday as your starting point, it can be any day, but if you focus on seven day increments and you stumble, you can change your actions - fast. You always get the chance to to build vs. working from New Year's Day which can loom so large you can feel paralyzed. Over time, a series of successful weeks or a series of fresh starts will yield results. Give it some thought and think about what you want to accomplish most this year!

"One year from now, you may wish you had started today."
