"On a personal note. My beloved mother, Ina Gartenberg, is facing serious health struggles as she enters her 92nd year on this earth. I have been going back and forth from Dallas, Texas this summer, helping my brothers to provide her comfort and support. Because of the unpredictability of her condition, I reduced our summer SWF programming. As a country we experienced the difficulties of senescence. As for so many of us, helping an aging loved one is a part of life which calls for wisdom, patience, and love. 'Teach us to count the number of our days.'" From Rabbi Dov's 7/25/24 Blog Post.

Shir Hesed-Song of Kindness

A Lovingkindness Initiative of Shabbat with Friends

Shabbat with Friends is organizing a Kindness (Gemilut Hasadim) Initiative called Shir Hesed-Song of Kindness. The purpose of the Shir Hesed is to bring songs through visits of Jewish seniors and isolated individuals. The aim of our visits is to bring joy and comfort to individuals and groups by sharing Jewish and Shabbat folk songs. We plan to visit people both in the Albuquerque and Santa Fe areas.

About Rabbi Dov

Rabbi Dov Gartenberg is the Convener of Shabbat with Friends New Mexico, a new Jewish organization that organizes Shabbat gatherings in homes to recapture the joy of the shared Sabbath meal, of welcoming hospitality, of contagious group singing, and of meaningful Torah study. Through these gatherings we foster friendship, community, and a love of Shabbat.

Rabbi Gartenberg served as interim rabbi of Congregation Bnai Israel of Albuquerque and was previously rabbi of Congregation Beth Shalom in Seattle Washington. He was trained at the Jewish Theological Seminary (Conservative) and studied at UC Berkeley and Harvard University.
