The Salcedo/Sanchez Family Home Dedication
On June 22nd we had perfect weather for a perfect dedication where we celebrated the Salcedo/Sanchez family receiving the keys to their new home. Friends, family, volunteers and Habitat CFC's staff, along with our Interim CEO Carolyn Vermont came out to participate in the ceremony and wish the family well in their new home. We were honored that Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim came and gave a moving speech. City of Bridgeport officials joined us as well. One of our Board Members, Dr. James Page, led the dedication program. Congratulations to the family!

Our Construction Team Keeps Things Going
Summer is a busy time of the year for our construction team with 10 homes under construction and multiple volunteer groups throughout the week. The on-site construction team: Jacques Charles, Project Manager; Chris Frattarola, Project Manager; Fred Hartley, Project Manager; John Poppa, Assistant Project Manager, Anthony Christie, Assistant Project Manager work tirelessly with our dedicated Habitat CFC volunteers to complete the homes under construction from the previous year and get the new projects erected and closed-in so work can continue throughout the rest of the year.

Meanwhile under the direction of Kevin Moore, Director of Construction, subcontractors are prepping the site and installing foundations for 7 new homes on Granfield Ave which volunteers will start erecting this fall. Kevin and recent addition to the construction team, Burke Cheney (Construction Coordinator) are always busy refining the Habitat home designs and working to ensure that they are in compliance with the building codes, the rigorous Energy Star requirements and meeting the needs of our future homeowners.

When asked about his construction team, Director of Construction , Kevin Moore , said, “I am so grateful to the terrific construction team we’ve built at Habitat CFC. Every member of the team is so dedicated to building high quality, energy efficient homes for our partner families and ensuring our volunteers are safely and productively involved throughout every step of the building process. I am sure I speak for all the members of our construction team when I say it’s a real privilege to be able to play a part in the important work Habitat CFC is doing in Bridgeport.”
Habitat CFC and Genworth – 17 Years of Partnership
Genworth Financial has been building with us for 17 years. Genworth’s Month of Service kicks off each year with a breakfast to motivate employees and introduce them to local nonprofits that they can volunteer with during the month. Genworth provides employees with annual volunteer time off… 40 hours for full-time employees! At this year's breakfast, Kristen Alvanson , Habitat CFC’s Director of Development and Communications, talked about Habitat’s mission and the opportunity to volunteer with Habitat. This year over 20 Genworth employees participated on one of two Build Days in June. Whether they’ve been coming for several years, or it’s their first time with us, the Genworth staff always arrives ready to work hard and have a good time building homes for our families. As Habitat CFC’s Core Volunteer , Mike McAlpine , said after a Genworth Build Day, “The group was great by the way. One of the best I’ve worked with. Motivated, worked hard, joked all day.”
Cost of Home
When the cost of home is too high, families cannot afford necessities like healthcare and food. That is why Habitat International is launching the #CostOfHome  campaign, we are joining Habitat affiliates across the country to increase home affordability for 10 million people.
Interested in Homeownership?
Habitat CFC’s Family Services Department hosts informational meetings for prospective homeowners several times a year. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about both the process and the selection criteria for Habitat CFC’s affordable homeownership program, we encourage you to call our office at 203-333-2642 or visit https://www.habitatcfc.org/apply-for-a-house/. Habitat CFC homeowners work hard helping to build their houses and taking classes designed to ensure their success, but the opportunity to own a new, affordable Habitat CFC home is life-changing for every member of the family.
