Greetings!

After this past weekend, none of us can doubt that spring has truly arrived! We are in the season of new beginnings and this is apparent nowhere more than here at Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County.

We dedicated two new homes in late March and are looking forward to what is likely to be an additional five home dedications in April, May and June. Later this month we will be breaking ground on our exciting new seven home Granfield Avenue project – while we continue to work on an additional six homes already in process. Fortunately, the spring weather tends to bring us hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers eager to lend a hand!

Increased building also ramps up the activity for our family services department – spreading the news about the affordable homeownership opportunity made possible through Habitat CFC. If you know of individuals or families who may be interested, please have them call us or direct them to check out https://www.habitatcfc.org/apply-for-a-house/ for information about how to apply.

With your continued help and support – this spring’s new beginnings can extend throughout the entire year! Together we are changing lives!

Thanks, as always.

Habitat CFC News
Double Dedication
On a brisk Saturday March 23rd, the wind didn't stop volunteers, friends, Habitat homeowners and our board members from attending a Habitat CFC double dedication for two families in Bridgeport where we handed over the keys to two brand new homes. The Harris and Bember families are very excited to start new chapters of their lives as owners of the homes that they helped build. They moved in this past weekend!!

Budgeting For A Better Life

Habitat CFC's Family Services Department held their Post-Closing Workshop on Saturday, March 16th at our administrative office. One of the facilitators, Amy Gillis , gave a class on “ Budgeting For A Better Life ” to the families who purchased their homes last year. We also had a will preparation class taught by attorney Michael Sohon and a session on important insurance information given by State Farm agent, Tracy Burke . One of the most important responsibilities of the Family Services Department is to educate our homeowners on how to be successful in order to improve the future for their family.
Collegiate Challenge Month
We've been fortunate to host two Collegiate Challenges once again this year... Habitat CFC was lucky to have two wonderful groups of volunteers join us, one from Providence College and another from Iona College . These college students stayed at Golden Hill United Methodist Church and served at Habitat CFC for their entire spring break week building homes with Habitat CFC Staff and Volunteers.

At the end of each group's week, Habitat CFC held a thank you dinner with Habitat homeowner families where the students shared how much they loved the experience and plan to volunteer again in the future!

Throughout the past year, we have communicated about our plans to build a new community – seven new homes for seven families – on Granfield Avenue in Bridgeport. We appealed to you to help support our fundraising effort spurred on by the extraordinary vision and generosity of George and Carol Bauer who challenged us all with a $550,000 challenge grant. Hundreds heard and responded to our appeal and we were gratified to complete our formal fundraising effort for this project earlier this year.

On Saturday afternoon, April 27th, we will formally break ground and begin to build our seven new homes. All are welcome to join us for a brief ceremony. Be on the lookout for our formal announcement and e-mail invitations. Hope you can join us as we launch this very exciting project!

Rock the Block with Youth United: Fundraise and Help Revitalize Bridgeport
Youth United, our youth division, is hosting a neighborhood revitalization effort this spring to celebrate Earth Day in Bridgeport’s East End for volunteers ages 5 to 22! Teams carry out an assigned project refreshing the yard or home exterior of a Habitat CFC homeowner. We will arrange and prepare an age-appropriate project for your team in advance. All you have to do is help get the word out about our event, fund raise, and show up that day ready to get your hands dirty. This is a great opportunity for schools, clubs, organizations, sports teams, or even a group of friends to serve the community together. Walk-ins are welcome to join us for food, games, and activities - including a Mother's Day craft, though projects are reserved for registered teams.

Our youth are working hard to plan this event. Proceeds will benefit Youth United’s effort in sponsoring their next Habitat CFC home in Bridgeport.
