Greetings!
Though it feels like it came upon us very quickly, there is no denying that we are now fully engaged in the holiday season! The significance of each of our varied religious observances is, of course, very different, but the fact that so many of us engage in meaningful celebrations this time of year creates an environment of good will that is both uplifting and infectious.
Whether your communications are received digitally or on paper, mail and e-mail boxes are packed with enticing catalogs and compelling charitable solicitations. It seems clear that the spirit of giving - through personal gifts and charitable contributions - is one of the few common themes woven through the many diverse celebrations of the season. So, too, are expressions of gratitude and the recognition of our many blessings.
The way in which one chooses to offer holiday greetings is occasionally the subject of debate and I certainly have no desire to step into it. Though you may not know which holiday I observe, as long as there are sincere good wishes behind your greeting, I will be grateful for whatever words you use. For my part, I will simply offer a heartfelt wish that each of you experiences the warmth and joy that comes from making a meaningful difference in someone else’s life.

Veteran Ready Organization
Habitat CFC is officially a Veteran Ready Certified Organization from the PsychArmor Institute. The PsychArmor Institute, in partnership with the Bob Woodruff Foundation, provides free online education and support to nonprofit organizations so that they can effectively engage with service members, veterans, and military families. Former AmeriCorps VISTA Colton Shaheen introduced the Veteran Ready certification to Habitat CFC in August. As an Army veteran himself, Colton felt the program was the single best resource he could find that bridges the gap between civilians and veterans. Habitat CFC staff completed four courses to understand military culture as civilians, and how to utilize this understanding to better serve veterans in the coastal Fairfield community as an organization. The PsychArmor Institute will be an ongoing resource for Habitat CFC as we strive to expand our capacity to serve veterans.

Hitachi Builds in Memory of Vivian Thomas
|
Hitachi Capital America made a generous donation in memory of Vivian Thomas, a long-time friend and employee who passed away in June. Vivian’s fellow employees came out to build with Habitat CFC where she was dedicated to our mission of providing affordable homeownership opportunities. Vivian was also a member of our Women Build W.A.T.C.H. Circle and will be greatly missed here at Habitat CFC.

We're excited to welcome
Amanda Wolfe to the Habitat CFC Family as our new AmeriCorps VISTA, Project Development.
Amanda grew up in Bristol, CT. In May, she graduated from Roanoke College with a degree in Sociology and Anthropology. During her time at Roanoke, she served abroad in rural Nicaragua, researched and published on the effects of globalization on non-communicable diseases in the Republic of Palau, and ran the tutoring center on campus. After her year of service with Habitat for Humanity, she hopes to attend graduate school to study historic preservation. She’s excited to apply what she learned as an undergraduate to help expand Habitat CFC’s capacity to serve families and engage volunteers.
