October 2018, A Month of Help and Hope
Greetings!

Habitat for Humanity’s global vision is “a world in which everyone has a decent place to live.” This statement and the work that supports it are innately optimistic. We believe that a hard working family, provided with the life changing opportunity to build and purchase a new home, will rise to the occasion, fulfill their obligations, help lift their community and become a model for others to exemplify. Thirty three years, 215+ homes and a 95% success rate would all indicate that our optimism is well placed.

It may be hard to retain this sense of optimism at a time when our nation is so politically polarized. America has always welcomed varied opinions, honest debate and passionate perspectives. But recently, it seems that we have lost the ability to disagree without abandoning our sense of shared humanity.

Strong opinions and freedom of expression help make our nation great. But when the polarization gets to be too much, come spend some time with us. Whether you build alongside a Habitat CFC family, attend an event or join us for a home dedication, I promise that you will regain your sense of optimism. The hope and determination of a family working hard while reaching for all that our nation has to offer, is truly uplifting. Their gratitude and our shared desire to see them succeed is the very definition of humanity. Thank you for making it possible!

Sincerely,
Stuart D. Adelberg

Double Dedication Ceremony for The Maria Valiente Frias and Martha Larrea Families

Last Saturday October 27 the rain storms did nothing to dampen the spirits of all who came out to help Habitat CFC dedicate two brand new homes in Bridgeport’s East End. We were honored that Senator Richard Blumenthal , Mayor Joe Ganim and City Council Member Ernest Newton all attended and helped two wonderful Bridgeport families begin exciting new chapters in their lives as owners of the homes that they helped build!

Our Partnership with Avangrid
Last month Avangrid employees put on their hard hats and tool belts and headed to Habitat CFC’s construction site on Ogden Street Extension in Bridgeport with the goal of helping build a “green” house.

This year the Avangrid team helped put up siding on the Sanchez-Salcedo family’s future home as one of dozens of projects coordinated across the globe as part of an International Volunteer Day, in partnership with their corporate partner, Spain-based Iberdrola, S.A..

Habitat CFC 5K Run, Still Going Strong
The weather could not have been more perfect for our Annual 5K Run for Home and WorkBoot Challenge. The race was on October 6th at the beautiful Seaside Park in Bridgeport. A record number of registered participants enjoyed water views as they walked or ran along the course. We followed the race up with a post-event Celebration party including food, refreshments, giveaways, award ceremony and live music by The Sulls band!

A big THANK YOU to all of our Sponsors (  see list here ) and Run Committee for making this event a success!
