August 2024 Newsletter

After 11 years, Rick Holzbach officially retired as the ReStore Manager on August 2! Rick was integral in growing the ReStore as a donation and shopping destination in the community to fuel our work on affordable housing. During his time he managed two location changes as the ReStore grew over the years and moved spaces. He will be missed but we know he is excited for retirement and more time at the river! Rick trained his replacement, Cara Saravia, who started with us in May and is our ReStore Manager going forward.

Thanks to a Lowes grant, Habitat was able to help an 83-year-old widower who was unable to keep up with maintenance around the home due to limited funds. Habitat was able to come in and repair his floor, to make sure he can easily and safely move around his home. Thank you Lowes for your support and for improving lives in Hanover and King William County.

Recycle Your Aluminum!

Recycling ONE aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for 3 hours! Aluminum can be recycled an infinite number of times BUT if it is sent to the landfill, it will stay there for 500 years before it oxidizes!

Our ReStore's recycling program is always recycling metal - not only does that keep them out of landfills, but it also provides additional funds for our programs. We are still in the middle of the Novelis competition and the Habitat affiliate that recycles the largest amount of aluminum will receive additional grant funds!

Drop off your metal in our bins outside our ReStore. Larger items can be taken to the back donation bay between 9 am and 4 pm; Monday to Saturday. (7199 Stonewall Parkway in Mechanicsville). Canhuts are at every Hanover County Transfer Station, & the King William County Parks and Recreation Building.

Recycling helps build and repair homes locally, so keep collecting your metal and bringing it to us!

Homeownership Tip

Have you been changing your air filters recently? The filter pulls pollutants like dust, pollen, dirt, mold, animal fur, bacteria, and more. Over time, germs and grime will clog the filter. If you change it often, you keep the air in your home cleaner and reduce the risk of health concerns for your family. Get into a routine and change your filters every 3 months!

(Don't forget we sell filters at the ReStore for only $1 each!)
