Monthly Update: Habitat for Humanity of Mason County
All of us at Habitat for Humanity of Mason County hope you had a great October!

Habitat for Humanity of Mason County had an amazing turnout for the Blessing Ceremony for Habitat Home #31. The on-site Ceremony was held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 20th at 301 Grandview Ave. Pastor Michael Wedman of New Community Church of Union led the blessing.

Future homeowner Cassie Tibbitts has been very helpful with volunteering and is excited for the completion of her Habitat home. Habitat for Humanity of Mason County appreciates the strong support of our Community and the commitment of our volunteers. We have many community partners that have come together to help support the construction of House #31. Sierra Pacific Industries donated all of the framing lumber needed to support the build of House #31, Williams Architect donated their design services, PUD 3 donated volunteer resources to help with the construction effort, Kimbel Construction donated land development & excavation services, A1 Roofing donated material and their roofing services to install the roof when framing was complete, and Bradley Air is donating services and installing one ductless mini split unit to heat and cool the house. A big thank you also goes out to our financial supporters,The community Foundation of South Puget Sound and United Way of Mason County. We at Habitat for Humanity of Mason County thank you all for the help!

Many home preservation projects have been completed in the month of October. We have more scheduled to be completed in the month of November and would love some volunteers to come help out!

The Shelton and Belfair Stores are in need of volunteers. If you are interested in helping out, you can come into the store to fill out a volunteer application or go to our website to fill one out.

In addition to new home construction we continue to assist Mason County homeowners with accessibility ramps, porch repairs and some outside repairs to enable them to maintain their homes in a safe manner. To apply for assistance visit our website at  www.habitatmasonwa.org  and click on the Homeowner Help tab, stop by one of our stores or call the office at 360.426.8134EXT202.
Volunteers
We have some unique and fun opportunities that are custom made for you! At Habitat we have so many volunteer opportunities we can't list them all! Give us a call or drop us an email! We want to hear from you and look forward to having your skills, talent and smile on the team! Some volunteer opportunities include, new construction, remodeling, residential maintenance and repair, helping out in either of our two stores which are located in Shelton and Belfair, helping with office and admin support or participating on one of our committees. It doesn’t matter your skill level, Jobs range from framing to trim and painting. Anyone can volunteer! Volunteering at Habitat is a way to have fun and to learn or teach new skills.

Committees that we would love more volunteers on are Family Support and Family Selection.

Family Support committee is responsible for identifying social and economic problems facing families, and identifying potential community resources to address those problems, as well as providing moral support and appropriate assistance to client-families following their selection for home ownership, and including involvement beyond the family's occupation of their home. The committee should provide referrals to available community resources like; financial planning, tax preparation, available community health care, employment and educational resources, local nutrition, child care, parenting and food bank programs, in an effort to help client-families break the poverty cycle. This committee is also responsible for creating policies and procedures that implement a Family Partner program, and providing a Partner for each family, and oversight of the Family Partner relationship. This committee is responsible for maintaining an accounting of "sweat equity" hours performed by client families.

Family Selection committee is responsible for drafting selection criteria and application forms, for submission to the Board of Directors for their approval. Upon adoption of these forms, the committee is responsible for soliciting potential client-families, screening applicants, interviewing prospective families, and recommending families for pre-qualification.
