A few weeks ago, one of our treasured staff members, Kaci, experienced a tremendous loss. Her boyfriend, Thomas, passed away suddenly.
Thomas was a 22 year-old man who woke up one day, like we all do, and with no warning, - became critically ill. When he passed away a week later, his family, Kaci, and all who witnessed or learned of his death, were stunned and in a state of disbelief.
For me, though, it was a wake-up call!

In the last several days as I have reflected upon Thomas’s death, I am reminded that God can call us home anytime. Generally, it is not on our time, but on His time!
And for me, at least, I ask a barrage of questions:
- Am I ready spiritually?
- Am I prepared financially?
-
Am I living every day to the fullest?
- Am I kind to others?
- Am I judging others?
- Should I be doing more? Less?
- Is there LOVE in my life?
After speaking with Kaci, it became clear to me that Thomas had a great deal of love in his life. I saw that at the funeral home where throngs of people came to pay their respect. I also saw it in Kaci’s eyes every time she mentioned Thomas’s name or recounted a moment she spent with him.
Though I never met this young man, I am confident that he was ready to meet his Maker. But even more important, he was happy! This was a man who lived his life and valued every moment he spent with those he loved.
The way he lived his life is an important reminder to all of us that life is very short and every moment matters.
This month I have a plan…get more rest, spend quality time with the grandkids, enjoy a special lunch with my leadership team, and maybe go on a date with my love.
If Thomas taught me anything it was that under no circumstance will I be wasting a single moment of my day. It’s time to dance, sing, shout, serve, and love.
Rest easy dear Thomas and thank you for the lessons of life.

Thrivent Venture Update
We are over halfway through our Thrivent Venture effort on Redmond in Eastpointe, moving toward a 40-day target on August 21st. All demolition work is completed, plus nearly all the painting. Laminate flooring and trim work are next.
While removing tile in the bathroom, the original building certificate from July 1, 1948, was discovered. And verification that no insulation is in any walls! Great to be able to bring a solid house up to code and renovated for a family.
We expect work to continue into September on this home after trades do their work, so stay tuned.

Warehouse Associate Position Open
We are looking for a warehouse worker to participate in our warehouse operations and activities.
Warehouse worker responsibilities include storing materials, picking, packing, and daily lifting and moving of product.
The goal is to increase efficiency, profitability and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and complete orders for delivery or pickup according to schedule (load, pack, wrap, label, ship).
- Receive and process warehouse stock products (pick, unload, label, store).
- Perform inventory controls and keep quality standards high for audits.
- Keep a clean and safe working environment and optimize space utilization.
- Report any discrepancies.
- Communicate and cooperate with supervisors and coworkers.
- Follow quality service standards and comply with procedures, rules and regulations.

Deconstruction Associate Position Open
The individual shall be an essential part of the Construction team working at first with supervision, but then with another team member following county, city, state construction and HUD compliance; code compliance, worksite safety, assisting with new/rehab construction, Critical Home Repairs and deconstruction.
Individual must ensure projects are completed professionally and safely.
Responsibilities
- Understand, support, and ability to communicate the Habitat vision.
- Minimum one year experience in residential construction preferred.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities.
- Ability to demonstrate and teach necessary skills to volunteers. (Excellent social and communication skills)
- Willingness to be flexible in responding to situations as they arise.
- Availability to work Saturdays.
- High School diploma.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; talk; or hear; and taste; or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
