Blog: Thou Shalt Not Steal!
Generally, my blogs are positive and uplifting. It’s who I am, or at least, who I want to be!

But today, as I sip the warmest drink I can find, I am going to address an issue we are having in our ReStores and my tone is less than happy. It’s a common issue that other non-profits are experiencing but it’s rather frightening to me and a sign that some people think they are getting away with a crime, but they are not!

Our issue is theft!

Faith Build Project in St. Clair Shores
Macomb County Habitat has been chosen to partner with Thrivent Financial to build a new Faith Build home on Maxine St. (near Greater Mack, south of Nine Mile) in Saint Clair Shores. A Thrivent $70,000 Challenge Grant will cover half the cost of this three-bedroom home, with funds released as Habitat secures matching amounts in donations or in Gifts in Kind. Work has begun to recruit over 200 Christian volunteers for the build, and congregations are invited to join the effort with funding, volunteers and prayers. The summer and fall schedule is being planned, with applications open to find a qualifying family for the home.

A Clergy and Ministry Leader Luncheon is the next informational step, on Tuesday, Feb. 19 th at Pegasus Restaurant in SCS, from 11:45 am-12:55 pm. RSVP to Dave Tirsell at macombhabitat.org. Stay tuned for further details this spring.
Construction Planning Underway
Our team is planning for a busy summer and fall with two new builds in Clinton Township (homes begun by Chippewa Valley School students and completed by our volunteers), the SCS Faith Build, work on rehabs in Warren and Eastpointe, several Brush with Kindness activities and projects at each of our ReStores. Stay tuned as these are posted in the next few months.

Have a work or faith group you would like to mobilize to lend a hand? Contact Dave Tirsell at macombhabitat.org to start the ball rolling.
Winter Volunteering Focuses on ReStores – With options limited on new home construction or rehabs in the colder months, consider giving time and energy for a half day or full day at either our Warren or Shelby Twp. ReStore locations. Help our staff organize items, process donations, move purchased items into vehicles, and maybe demo some non-saleable items for the dumpster. Age 17 on up, anytime the stores are open (Tuesday-Friday, 10–6, Saturday, 10-5), Your help enables Macomb Habitat to reach more families in the 2019.
