What's Closing? And Who's Moving?

Our affiliate, Macomb County Habitat for Humanity, is not closing!

While Detroit Habitat for Humanity, our neighboring affiliate and friend, has closed their stores until they reopen at some point in the future, we still have two viable stores.

But….one of our stores will be relocating so that we can move to a new store in Shelby!

Meet our New ReStore Manager
In January, we welcomed a new employee to our team. Edward Fagan, ReStore Manager, is responsible for overseeing the entire ReStore Department at Macomb County Habitat for Humanity.

Over the last six years, Edward owned and managed his own Sprint store, and before that he was a store Manager at Big Lots for 8 years. Edward is an expert in training and motivating employees, is familiar with ever-changing inventory, and excels in customer service.

In his first few weeks, he has already proven himself very effective and we look forward to having his expertise and enthusiasm in both of our ReStores.

Good luck Edward, and welcome to the team at Habitat!

Volunteer Opportunities
Our largest need for volunteers in February will be at our Mount Clemens ReStore, as we begin to move the ReStore to a new location in Shelby Township. Help us organize, move household goods and take apart fixtures, to be ready to begin the moving process. A third of our operating income comes from our ReStores, so they are vital to our work in Macomb County.
ReStore News
The Warren ReStore hosts a flash sale every Friday from 3 - 6pm on various items. The Warren ReStore is located at 23211 Van Dyke (north of 9 Mile).

The Mt. Clemens ReStore's clearance sale continue in preparation for the big move to Shelby Township. Everything in store is 7 5% off and the last day to shop at the Groesbeck location will be Saturday, February 18! Visit the Mt. Clemens ReStore at 130 N Groesbeck Hwy (north of Cass Ave).

Ted's Tip: Dryer Duct Exhaust Maintenance

Turn on your dryer, go outside, and check to see if the hot air is making its way outside. You can easily check this in the winter when the air is cold.

The warm air will be clearly visible and should appear like fog.

Why should this be part of home maintenance? It’s unsafe for the exhaust to be clogged or blocked.

A clogged exhaust can cause the dryer to overheat or cause a fire.

Birds and mice love dryer vents because of the warmth it provides and it’s a great place for them to nest.

This is the perfect time of year to inspect your vent in order to keep your family safe.

Volunteer Spotlight
Martha Houser is a long-time volunteer who looks for ways she can fit Macomb Habitat into her busy schedule around American Red Cross blood drives, tutoring students, helping with meals for the community and other outreach activities with her church, Grace Episcopal, Mt. Clemens. What first started as attending a few meetings in 2007 and coordinating a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for us has evolved to many Saturdays and weekdays each year as a friendly Site Host for volunteers at our construction sites. Besides greeting thousands on the work site, she is really good at “batting cleanup” – seeing things to pick up on site to improve the looks of the site, and she is happy to put her green thumb gardening expertise to work to coach homeowners and volunteers on landscaping and caring for flowers and trees. Thank you, Martha, for your investment in Macomb Habitat, our homeowners and volunteers!
