Blog: Welcoming the Silver Anniversary Tour
Dear Fiscal Year 2017-18,

I’m a tiny bit sad to see you go, because you were filled with new donors, volunteers, board and staff. You brought me happiness – but you were short-lived. Twelve months wasn’t long enough for me to really get to know you. So frankly, I’m moving on to a relationship that is going to span the next 25 months. I’m ready for something really spectacular and mind-blowing.

I’m moving on to 2018-19 and the Silver Anniversary Tour – a series of unbelievable events and programs designed to celebrate Macomb Habitat’s 25 th year of serving low-income veterans, seniors, and families.
Donor Spotlight
BAE Systems employees volunteered their time on a recent Brush With Kindness project for a disabled U.S. Army Veteran married couple. They built a brand new porch entrance to the home, completed interior repairs and painted. Coincidentally, half of the BAE Systems volunteers were military veterans themselves who came together to help a fellow comrade in need. Additionally, BAE Systems supplied a $25,000 corporate donation in support of the repairs to the home. We are so thankful for our ongoing partnership with BAE Systems and their commitment to assisting local veterans in need!
Happy 25th Anniversary to Macomb Habitat!
This week marks the beginning of our 25 th year of operation for Macomb County Habitat for Humanity. As such, we are asking our volunteers, donors, partner families, and friends to go to macombhabitat.org and make a donation that has the number 2-5 in it ($2,500; $250, $25, etc.).

If you can afford a large donation, please allow your heart to start the year off in a really BIG way.

Let’s really start off the year with a BANG as the 25 th Anniversary Tour begins.

Happy birthday to us!
Volunteer Spotlight
Edward C. Levy Co. Celebrates 100 Years – From humble beginnings hauling slag for Henry Ford in 1918, Edward C. Levy Co. has grown to have aggregate and building material locations in six states and five other nations. To celebrate their centennial, they chose to partner with a nonprofit available in all those places – Habitat for Humanity. With five locations in Southeast Michigan, we had the largest footprint, providing nine volunteer days in May and June, to mobilize 112 employees on projects in Warren, Eastpointe and Clinton Township. Great teamwork and fun with this first-time partner!

Mercedes Benz Financial Services – A fourth year partnership with MBFS during their annual Week of Caring unleashed 37 volunteers on to our rehab on Sarsfield in Warren. Siding removal and replacement, soffit, fascia, trim and door work plus landscaping started this transformation. Mercedes-Benz Financial Services has always been an enthusiastic team eager to make a difference in the community.
Brose Co., Jefferson Plant – Another new partner, trying out employee volunteering for the first time, helped with exterior repairs to porches and garage for a veteran owned home in Warren. An automotive supplier with a Warren plant location, this team enjoyed the work and seeing visible progress in home safety and “curb appeal” for a family.
Benefits of Voluteering
Giving our time and effort to help others can feel wonderful. We get to see the immediate impact of our work. We watch a wall go up, we clear a field of litter, we enjoy the smiles of the people we help and work beside.

While each of those seems like reason enough to volunteer, there are additional benefits to giving your time. The people you help might not be the only ones to gain from the experience!

Learn something new
Every volunteer opportunity offers a chance to stretch your skill set. With Habitat, you’ll always have the chance to learn something different, sometimes in as little as a single day. Help a family make repairs and improvements to their existing home or get instruction on how to use a new-to-you tool on a build site. Learn how to raise awareness of housing issues. Serve on a committee that helps coordinate future homeowner selection, financial education or build-site snacks! No matter how you choose to get involved, if you ever wanted to change the world and see the impact of your efforts, we have a place for you.
Volunteer Opportunities
By clicking the Volunteer tab at macombhabitat.org , you can see the unfolding schedule for construction projects and our ReStore needs for volunteers. Opportunities change weekly, so return often. Each project has room for more volunteers, even if most of the team is from a particular company or faith group.

Note: Several Thrivent Builds Repairs and Brush with Kindness efforts are planned in July and August, for exterior repairs to owner occupied homes across the county. No experience necessary, ages 17 and up. Are you a Thrivent member? We especially need your help with the Saturday Thrivent Build Repair projects coming up to fulfill grant requirements for funding.

Another Exciting Milestone!
On June 14, Macomb County Habitat for Humanity dedicated its 150th Habitat house to the Maisano family! Kelley was accepted into our program in December of 2017 and completed all of her classes, sweat equity and saved her down payment in a record time of just 6 months! Including this incredible milestone, we have housed a total of 192 adults and 329 children in Macomb County! Congratulations to Kelley and her family as they transition from renters to homeowners in their new Clinton Township home!

The Maisano Family's home was the 10th house built by Chippewa Valley Schools Construction Trades students! Thank you to CVS for their continued partnership!
