Spring Cleaning

At Macomb County Habitat for Humanity, we are doing quite a bit of spring cleaning. Some of our cleaning is taking place in our offices, at both ReStores, and in our company vehicles.

But honestly, most of the cleaning is in our attitudes and how we treat customers and each other.

What do I mean?

Volunteer Opportunities

Several teams will be needed to clear out the Mt. Clemens ReStore location by the end of March – organizing and cleaning the 48,000 sq ft facility. Then we will need an army of volunteers and trucks to transfer donations to our new location just south of 21 Mile on Van Dyke in Shelby Twp. Contractors will shortly begin work on preparing that 19,000 sq ft building – masonry firewalls, connecting HVAC duct-work and other renovations. Then we will need volunteers to paint and prepare the new building for an April opening. Got a group interested from your church or business? Contact Dave Tirsell at dtirsell@macombhabitat.org to arrange a work day. Watch the Volunteer Calendar for open teams to join, as well. Home construction efforts will resume in April after the new store is up and running.

Ted's Tip: Clean your Gutters!

Gutters direct rain away from your roof and home, protecting both in the process. Clogged gutters,

Meanwhile, open your home to water damage-and there’s a good chance you won’t notice the damage until you need an expensive repair.

Volunteer Spotlight
Julie Kusnery has been a significant volunteer with Macomb County Habitat since February, 2012. Julie bought an affordable home needing a number of renovations, and discovered Habitat after seeing how much hiring a contractor to do that work would cost. Since then she has learned a number of practical skills through Habitat, from demolition to rough carpentry on through finish work such as trim and painting. She has become a teaching expert with laminate flooring and ceramic floor tile, and is happy to share her skills with others. Julie has experienced a wide range of volunteer tasks by helping with 31 different home rehab projects, 16 new builds and Brush with Kindness efforts in six communities in Macomb County. Plus she is a good supporter of our various fundraising events. Thank you, Julie for investing your time and energy in the lives of so many Macomb County Habitat families!
