Blog: "Home" of the Free because of the Brave!
I know a man named John who has been a volunteer with our affiliate for years. He’s such a gift to us!

He often performs the jobs that no one else wants to do like scrubbing the floors of our Warren store or helping with the lighting ballasts and other “easy” tasks.

There’s a lot to this man and because he is so humble, we often don’t know that he’s a bit of a hero and very brave.
Matching Gift Approaching Its Goal... Donate now before the match is met!
In the first four weeks of the annual Home Run for Habitat Campaign raised half of the matching funds available! This campaign is a competition between all Habitat affiliates in Michigan and we are in fifth place! Help us reach our goal of $25,000 to help us celebrate 25 years!

Thanks to Consumers Energy, this donation page will match your donation 1:2. That means for every $2 you donate to our affiliate, Consumers Energy will donate an additional $1 to us! We thank them for their partnership and support.
Join us for two dedication ceremonies in Eastpointe this month!
Join two great homeowners in Eastpointe as we dedicate two more Habitat home completions in May. Join us on Wednesday, May 9 th , at 3:45 p.m. at 23729 Normandy, Eastpointe, to celebrate with DeAngela Northern and her family.

The second dedication will be Monday, May 14 th , at 3:45 p.m. at 21859 Tuscany, Eastpointe, with homeowner, Damon Sanders.

Each event will include light refreshments, a few speeches and a celebration, followed by a good look at the transformation of each house done by Macomb Habitat volunteers and staff.

Stay tuned for another ribbon cutting celebration in Clinton Township later in the month.
New Volunteer Database
New Volunteer Database – As of May 1 st , Macomb Habitat is transitioning to a new database for volunteers to sign up for builds, ReStore activities, and events, SignUp.com . VolunteerHub has served us well for 8+ years but has raised the price for their services by $2,000 a year, well beyond our budget. There will be a new button at macombhabitat.org under Volunteer to access the list of upcoming events. The site is mobile friendly, and volunteers only need limited information to sign in – name, email address, home address and phone number, plus an optional group or organization name to get started. No passwords will be needed, and only the email address is required to sign in for future activities. Bear with us as we populate the new site with events and learn about features, such as the ability to group multiple volunteer days for a company or faith group under one tab.

Volunteer Spotlight
Macomb Spartans MSU Alumni Chapter celebrates MSU Global Day of Service with Macomb Habitat

In the fourth year of volunteering with us, a team from Macomb Spartans spent a Saturday building a side porch, grading and seeding the yard and other tasks to finish up our new home build at 161 Dickenson in Romeo. Michigan State alumni and students focus once a year on a Global Day of Service to give back to the community on the Saturday closest to Earth Day. Michele Coe organizes and publicizes, and willing people show up from all over the area. Thanks for your help and congratulations on being selected as our volunteers of the month!
Ready for a safe and meaningful adventure?
Travel to the Dominican Republic this August with Habitat!
Join the team soon for a Caribbean trip to build a decent, weather resistant home for a family in need. The week-long trip, Aug. 25 - Sept.2, will include cultural activities, assisting a local mason and Habitat team in the tasks that are needed to prepare a home. Good meals and comfortable lodging, transport and translation are part of the deal. The community is Construyendo Juntos (Building it Together) in San Juan de la Maguana.

This Thrivent Builds Worldwide trip is open to anyone 18 and over (17 if a parent is on the team), with costs of $1,050 for Thrivent benefit members, $1,400 for others, which includes a donation for materials for the home build. Airfare is extra. No experience necessary, just flexibility. Great way to use that Spanish if you have those skills. Questions? Contact Team Leader, Dave Tirsell, at: dtirsell@macombhabitat.org to get the process going.
