Blog: Celebrating Earth Month at Macomb Habitat through May... and always!
Whenever I think of celebrating our Earth, I think of all that our Habitat affiliate does to save the planet.

First, and foremost, I think about our ReStores which are wonderful places where many gently used treasures can be found. Folks who care about the Earth, choose to donate housewares, outside gardening equipment, furniture, and other wonderful items to Habitat.

Why? Because they do not want to see those items in landfills.
Home Run for Habitat is Back... and so are the Matching Donations courtesy of Consumers Energy!
Thanks to Consumers Energy, this donation page will match your donation 2:1. That means for every $2 you donate to our affiliate, Consumers Energy will donate $1 to us up to $100,000! We thank them for their continuous partnership and support.

Macomb County Habitat for Humanity is celebrating 25 years of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. Help us reach our goal of raising $10,000 to help us celebrate 25 years.

Faith Build Project in St. Clair Shores
Planning continues for a 3-bedroom Faith Build home on Maxine St. (near Greater Mack, south of Nine Mile) in Saint Clair Shores, including a push to get the plans approved by the city so the crawl space and other features can get started. Hopeful for an early June groundbreaking/wall building event. A Thrivent $70,000 Challenge Grant will cover half the cost of this three-bedroom home, with funds released as Habitat secures matching amounts in donations or in Gifts in Kind. We are recruiting over 200 Christian volunteers for the build, and congregations are invited to join the effort with funding, volunteers and prayers. The June through November schedule is being planned.
Year Five for Macomb Spartans MSU Alumni Team on
Global Service Day
Another great team of MSU alumni and friends made progress with painting, outdoor and garage projects at 22802 Saxony in Eastpointe on April 13th, as part of a Global Service Day for MSU alumni. Always a positive group, this time including some who had never worked with us but want to volunteer again this year.
Our team is planning for a busy summer and fall with two new builds in Clinton Twp. (homes begun by Chippewa Valley School students and completed by our volunteers), the SCS Faith Build, work on rehabs in Warren and Eastpointe, several Brush with Kindness activities and projects at each of our ReStores.

We are looking for a team to paint the sign poles among other projects at our Shelby ReStore!

Have a work or faith group you would like to mobilize to lend a hand? Contact Dave Tirsell to start the ball rolling.

A Tribute to Long-Time Volunteer: Nelson Leze
The Macomb County Habitat community was saddened to learn in early April of the death of long-time volunteer, Nelson Leze, at the age of 78. Since retirement, Nelson assisted Macomb Habitat on well over 150 different volunteer days from home builds and rehabs to ReStore projects to many exterior projects on owner occupied homes. All with a smile, sense of humor and a great ability to work with other volunteers of all ages (17 to 83), backgrounds and construction skill levels. We knew that we could pair Nelson with any volunteer and he could make sure they learned new skills and had a great experience. We also knew that if he was not travelling or helping at the Parade Company, he was willing to join us on short notice for special projects. Our prayers continue for his wife of 53 years, Janet Leze, other family and his many friends. Janet has asked that donations be directed to Macomb Habitat, if you wish to join in the tribute to Nelson in support of the work he treasured you can donate here.
Homeowner Applications: Applications for Macomb Habitat's homeowner program are open! The houses available are primarily located in Warren, and we will have a couple options in Clinton Township mid-year. Seven homeowner partners will be selected from those that apply.

Note: Meeting the Family Selection Criteria enables you to submit an application to our program and in no way ensures your acceptance into our program.
