Know Someone Interested In Homeownership?

WSU Master Gardeners

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of WSU Master Gardeners, our homeowners have the opportunity to grow their own food. Tri-County Partners Habitat for Humanity is grateful for our partnership with WSU Master Gardeners, and we appreciate their dedication to providing opportunity for our Habitat homeowners. WSU Master Gardeners is a grass roots initiative, that started in Pierce and King County during the 1970's. The organization prioritizes several programs, including work with the Juvenile Justice Center, Habitat homes, first-time gardeners series, and collaboration with local food banks. With the spring weather, Habitat homeowners are starting to prepare their gardens. Thanks to the efforts of WSU Master Gardeners, homeowners are able to grow food from their home countries, as Master Gardeners recently provided seeds and plant starts for families.

Habitat Gardens

Recently, I had the pleasure of reconnecting with Zin Zin and her husband, residents of their habitat home for the last 4 years. Since then, they have enjoyed the process of tending to their garden. Having a home where they can have a big garden is something they have looked forward to since they applied in 2017.

Zin Zin's passion for gardening was evident from the moment I stepped onto the path leading to her home. I couldn't help but notice a beautiful tree in full blossom-a testament to her green thumb. Her journey began even before their Habitat home, as she tended to plants in terracotta pots at their apartment complex. They even added onto their Master Gardener's plot to create triple the size garden space!

Last year, Zin Zin cultivated 9 distinct varieties of plants in her garden. Her family orders seeds from abroad, and has them shipped to their home. As May approaches, Zin Zin will prepare to plant new seeds. I look forward to reconnecting with Zin Zin in June, to witness firsthand the continued growth and beauty of her garden.

Women Build

Women Build was a HUGE success made possible by the support of our community partners, dedicated staff, and key volunteers. It was a truly inspiring week centered around empowerment, and we extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who played a part in making this event such a success!

Framing Futures Campaign

Last year, thanks to our wonderful donors we were able to raise over $152,0000! The cost of lumber and trusses for a Habitat home totals almost $20,0000 per home! Our next project on South Washington Street, will consist of 15 homes. The cost of lumber and trusses will total over $300,000!! As we look towards the future, our homeowners are the forefront of our minds. To help alleviate some of the lumber costs, we have a goal of exceeding $300,000!
