Nearly a decade ago, Thui Htoo's family found their forever home in Kennewick, Washington. Now, it's a pleasure to reconnect with Thui Htoo (back row second from left) and share the journey he's been on since then.
Q: WHO ARE YOU! TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
T: My name is Thui Htoo, and I grew up in Kennewick Washington. My family moved here from Myanmar when I was a little kid. Currently I'm living in Seattle, and in my second year of attending Seattle Pacific University (SPU). My major is Business Information Systems.
Q: HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOUR FAMILY MOVED INTO YOUR HABITAT HOME?
T: I was around 10 or 11 years old when we moved into our habitat home. I remember when they started building it. When I turned 15, I also helped with the building process for some of the other Habitat homes.
Q: WHAT HIGH SCHOOL DID YOU ATTEND? DID YOU PARTICIPATE IN ANY SPECIAL PROGRAMS?
T: I attended Kennewick High School, where I took honors classes. I also participated in the Running Start Program at Columbia Basin College, while working towards receiving my Associate degree.
Q: CAN YOU DESCRIBE WHAT YOUR EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN AT SPU?
T: My experience at SPU has been good so far. Everyone I've met has been really nice, and I like being a part of the smaller community there. I've made some very close friends. They are like a second family to me.
Q: WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING PART ABOUT LIVING IN SEATTLE?
I think the most challenging part about living in Seattle, is not being able to help my family if they need something. To be honest I didn't have difficulty adjusting to the University, because I have other friends here. The hard part for me is trying to find my purpose. I am still searching for that.
Q: WHAT DOES HOME MEAN TO YOU?
T: Home is where my family is. Currently, that is in Kennewick Washington.
