Staff Return with Secured PPP Funding
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our friends at  Wisconsin Bank & Trust , Habitat for Humanity Lakeside was able to secure a Paycheck Protection Program loan through the CARES Act on April 16!

When our ReStore closed in mid-March out of concern for COVID-19, Habitat took a huge blow to critical, unrestricted operating funds which help pay our mortgage, keep the lights on, and pay our staff. The same week the ReStore closed, all but one member of our staff were placed on temporary layoff as we worked to find ways to replace critical funding sources and ensure Habitat would be here to serve our community when it came time to build again.

All of our staff have since returned to work as of Friday, May 1. Our team has been working on a variety of activities since their return. The ReStore is being cleaned and reorganized to ensure a safer shopping experience. Operational procedures and plans for tackling construction & the ReStore reopening under new safety protocols with limited capacity are also being worked on.

While our offices, ReStore and construction sites remain closed to the public for the time being, we are still serving the mission and working towards reopening each line of business as soon as it is safe to do so. We sure appreciate your patience and hope that you are staying well during these uncertain times.
05.08.20 State of the Affiliate Video Update
Watch our first video update from Sarah Beckman, Executive Director, as she discusses the state of business at Habitat for Humanity Lakeside following a temporary layoff of staff related to COVID-19. We look forward to sharing more affiliate and ReStore news as we continue to plan a safe reopening strategy for all areas of our operation.
ReStore Reopening Timeline Announcement
During the week of May 4, 2020, our Board of Directors approved an initial multi-phase reopening for our Sheboygan ReStore. An overview of the first three phases are below.
Phase 1: Online Sales with Contact-less Pick-Up
Prior to our closure in March, our ReStore began listing product through Facebook Marketplace. We are excited to share that we will resume listing product on Facebook Marketplace on Wednesday, May 13 as part of our Phase 1 reopening strategy for the ReStore. We will also launch a landing page on our website where you can view all Facebook Marketplace listings in a single location. Because we don't have a POS system which allows for online checkout, customers will still need to call us to checkout by phone. During checkout, customers will also schedule a time for contact-less pick-up of their purchase. We are so excited to be able to offer this service as part of our Phase 1 Reopening Strategy.
Phase 2: Business Donation Pick-Up Resumes
While the ReStore has remained closed to the public we were incredibly touched to learn that many of the ReStore's long-time corporate partners have been holding donations to be ready for us when our truck can make pick-ups again. We are thrilled to announce our ReStore corporate donation pick-up schedule will resume beginning next Tuesday, May 19th! We will begin scheduling pick-ups on Wednesday, May 13. To schedule a pick-up or ask questions, please call the ReStore at 920-452-4175 or email loveinaction@habitatlakeside.com.

Please note, with only one truck available and without our usual volunteer muscle, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate residential donation pick-ups or drop-off donations at this time but we are working on plans to resume those services soon.
Phase 3: The ReStore Reopens for Shopping and Donation Drop-Off
The most frequently asked question while we have been closed is when we are reopening for shopping and donation drop-off. While this could change as quickly as the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 change, our plan right now is to reopen the ReStore for shopping and donation drop-off on Wednesday, May 27. This piece of our reopening strategy requires the most prep work and precaution to ensure that staff, donors and customers all stay safe. When we do reopen, we will have:
  • Reduced shopping hours
  • Reduced donation drop-off hours
  • Store capacity starting at 10 shoppers
  • Hourly cleaning procedures
  • New donation guidelines and drop-off procedures

We look forward to sharing more details with you in the coming weeks!
Volunteer Update
Volunteer Activities Cancelled Through June 30, 2020

For safety reasons related to COVID-19, we are suspending individual and group volunteer activities through June 30, 2020. Committee and select remote opportunities will still take place virtually. We will be making an announcement on individual and group volunteer activities for July and August during the first week in June. For any questions, please reach out to Emily at enuernberg@habitatlakeside.com or 920-458-3399 ext. 301.
Virtual Volunteer Opportunity: DIY Workshop Leaders

We are searching for creative and passionate minds to help us put together virtual DIY workshops to help raise money for our mission. Do you have a project in mind that you could teach to others? Perhaps how to makeover or repurpose furniture, create coasters out of tiles, a simple woodworking craft or a tool workshop with a project? If you have an idea for a workshop, we would love to explore it with you to see if it could serve as a fundraiser for our mission. Please send all ideas or questions to Emily at enuernberg@habitatlakeside.com or 920-458-3399 ext. 301. We are excited to see what you share with us!
