Jimmy Carter
Jimmy Carter- the 39th President, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, an advocate of so many humanitarian projects worldwide, a US Navy submarine officer and long-time Habitat for Humanity supporter, volunteer and advocate, has died. President Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, built, renovated or repaired more than 4,300 homes working alongside a countless number of volunteers across many countries in support of Habitat for Humanity’s Mission of building homes, communities and hope. Habitat For Humanity was founded in Americus, Georgia, in 1976 - about 10 miles from the Carters’ home in Plains, Georgia. The Carters weren't initially involved in Habitat's founding but in 1984, the Carters took a bus ride to New York with a group from South Georgia to take part in a renovation project at the Mascot Flats Apartment Building in Manhattan. The volunteers – including the Carters, slept on the floor in a local church basement each night. This project marked the very first of many Habitat For Humanity “Carter Work Projects”. With that first humanitarian effort back in 1984, Habitat for Humanity International CEO Jonathan Reckford said that the Mascot Flats Project helped to put Habitat For Humanity on the map. All of us a Habitat For Humanity of NE GA are truly saddened to hear of his passing, yet honored to continue to carry on the Mission of Habitat - a Mission and purpose which President Carter so passionately and deeply believed in.

In November of 2024, Habitat For Humanity Of NE GA held Homeownership Information Workshops in both White and Habersham Counties. More than 22 families attended the two sessions where information was shared and questions answered on how to become a Habitat Partner Family and Homebuyer. And, the workshops also served as an opportunity to meet a lot of wonderful people from the area. Homebuyer applications were accepted through January 6th, 2025 with a future Habitat Homebuyer Orientation to be held in Spring of 2025. Finally, Habitat of NE GA is richly blessed to both serve and be supported by the Habersham & White County communities and these workshops represented yet another reminder of the importance of our mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope!

Current Build
With any Habitat Home, every nail driven, every slab poured, every wall raised and every truss placed represents the generous support of our amazing community. The many dedicated volunteers who put in 1000s of hours of work per home, those who make monetary donations or donate needed building supplies or items to our ReStore - or shop our ReStore, Habitat of NE GA simple couldn't do what we do without you. And, we thank them all for the amazing progress made on Habitat Homes #79 and #80. It’s truly amazing the impact that can be made when a community comes together for a common good!
