A Note from Jim Walters, Executive Director
My name is Jim Walters and I could not be more excited to be the new Executive Director of Habitat of McLean County. I have been a social worker, advocate and community leader for more than 20 years. Most of that time has been working with victims of family violence and homeless families seeking adequate and affordable housing. I would like to give thanks to Stan Geison, our retiring director, for his generosity of knowledge, time, and spirit as we make this leadership transition.

About me, I am a proud ISU alumnus with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science. My social work journey began in Bloomington as a volunteer at Home Sweet Home Ministries. I lived and worked for two decades in Charleston IL and obtained a Master’s degree in Community Counseling from Eastern Illinois University. My wife Brandy and I look forward to relocating and engaging the community. I have five daughters, ranging in age from 23 to 5. They are my proudest accomplishment. If I had spare time, I would read, be outdoors and enjoy nature, and cheer on all my favorite sports teams. I also like to pretend to be an athlete; so I hope to see you on the constitution trail.

I am happy to introduce myself to Habitat and hope to form a meaningful relationship with all of our supporters. More than any other place I’ve been, Habitat is a community… a community of caring staff, volunteers, and homeowners. The work being done here is inspiring. I am humbled to have been chosen and look forward to working together for many years.

God Bless

Thrivent Faith Build Project
For the third year in a row, Habitat for Humanity of McLean County has been awarded a $45,000 grant from Thrivent Financial to build a home alongside a local family. This year’s partnership is part of a new program called Faith Build, and our affiliate is one of just 38 Habitats throughout the United States invited to participate!
The Faith Build program is designed to bring all sizes and denominations of churches together to raise walls, funds and prayers in partnership with a local family. There are ways to get involved no matter how big your congregation is:
·          Contribute towards sponsorship of the house
·          Provide volunteers on the build site
·          Provide snacks for volunteers on build days
·          Offer prayer for the family as they go through their journey to homeownership
·          Create a housewarming basket for the family
·          Attend the family’s Groundbreaking and House Blessing ceremonies

If your church is interested learning more about the Faith Build, contact Noel Lucero at noel.lucero@habitatmclean.org
