Topic: Learn essential home electrical skills, including how to safely replace outlets, light fixtures, and light switches, as well as how to reset tripped breakers. This session also includes instruction and practice with GFCI outlets, helping you understand where they’re required and how to install or troubleshoot them.

Portland Vacant & Abandoned Properties

All sessions take place at the Portland Library, 3305 Northwestern Pkwy

Nearly every block in Portland has a vacant lot or abandoned house. Neighbors are left to decide how to deal with it. Call the owners if you can find them? Call the City? Cut the grass?

For answers, staff from the Office of Housing and Community Development will offer a 3-part learning series. The presentations are designed to equip residents with information and available options to address the issue.

Avoiding Scams

We have been made aware of a growing number of fakes advertisements using Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville's name and logo to promise "free roofs" and other services. Most of these scams seem to target seniors. While Habitat does have a repair program, we do not provide the application link on Facebook, and all Habitat programs have a qualification process. Always be wary of social media ads, and if you see an ad you are interested in, search for the company's website to confirm they are legitimate before you click on any links in the ad. If you are still unsure, ask a trusted friend their opinion, or call the organization directly.

Louisville Tool Library (LTL) is a volunteer-run, community-based, 501(c)(3) non-profit lending system dedicated to accessibility of resources, waste reduction, and growth through education.

Operating similarly to a traditional book-filled library, members are able to borrow a wide variety of household items on a 7 day lending cycle. Annual membership works on a sliding scale donation and your contributions - tools or otherwise - are all tax deductible.
