HACKBERRY CREEK NEWSFLASH

April 22nd, 2023

Dear Residents,

If you didn't know - today is Earth Day! Why is Earth Day recognized on April 22nd? The April 22 date was selected in part because it fell between colleges’ spring break and final exams, and also from the observance of Arbor Day, which began in Nebraska in 1872, a day when people are encouraged to plant trees.

More at home here on a local level, the Poker Run is TODAY at 3pm! And next Saturday is the Taste of Hackberry!

This week's Mid-Week Update includes reminders on...

  • Call For Books For Lending Libraries at Parks
  • Board Budget Workshops - Homeowner Access - Important Info
  • Focus On The Parks - Poker Run at McKee Park TODAY

Have a great week and as always, if you have any questions, please call the Hackberry Creek office at 972-401-4946.

FOCUS ON THE PARKS SERIES

POKER RUN - STARTS AT MCKEE PARK - TODAY!

The fun just doesn't end here in Hackberry Creek!! (Volunteers Needed Below!)

As we continue in our Focus on the Parks Series our next adventure will take us to ALL the parks. Join us today, April 22 at McKee Park (Crosswood & Primrose) at 3:00 pm where our Poker Run journey will begin.

Poker Run Basics:

  1. Poker Run Score Cards are $10 each to play. Some stations will offer $5 to improve your card pull.
  2. Route will take you to 5 total stations - McKee Park, Village Greens, Southern Oak Park, Waterford Circle, and Summitview Circle. You will pull one card at each station to complete your poker hand. There will also be a skill activity at each station that you must complete so you can pull your card. That way we aren't "gambling"
  3. Once you have visited the other four stations you will return to McKee Park with your score card where score cards will all be graded to determine the best hand drawn. The winning hand wins HALF the proceeds from score card sales. Depending on participation, that could be a LOT! The remaining balance will go into a Village Social Activity Fund to help pay expenses for future HOA sponsored activities
  4. All score cards purchased will automatically enter a raffle to win a gift card for a monthly membership to THC Social, the new poker room opening in the old Staples space near Hudson House and The Ranch. THC Social is owned by Hackberry Creeks own Bridget & Bill Connelly!
  5. How do you get from station to station you ask? We highly encourage golf carts, bicycles, running, walking (it's about a 5 mile route) or any way that minimizes our carbon foot print given that our event is on Earth Day, but if a motor vehicle is all you have please carpool and be mindful of slower moving traffic on the streets that day.

Don't wish to participate in the Poker Run, no problem, join us at McKee Park for music, games, and dinner being served by Lamberti's from 3:00-5:00pm. Lamberti's menu and pricing will be posted when available, but it will likely be a pasta dish, beer and wine.

As with all village events, volunteers make it happen. Please use the SignUp Genius link below to sign up to help!

CALL FOR BOOKS FOR LENDING LIBRARIES!

Lending Libraries in Hackberry Parks: BOOK DONATIONS NEEDED!

For the last 8 months, our lending libraries have been inspiring reading in all age groups in the community, and we have received a lot of positive feedback. One of the best ways to promote a sense of community is through the exchange of books.

Our supply of books is running a little low right now in all three libraries.

Do you have books that are in good condition that you would like to donate?

Three ways to donate books (children’s, teen and adult titles):

  • Bring books to one of the libraries located at McKee Park, Village Greens Park or Southern Oak Park.
  • Arrange a pick-up by contacting Meryl Kearns at merylkearns@gmail.com.
  • Deliver books to the HOA office during office hours for the month of April only.

Our huge thanks to those neighbors who help straighten the books and cull for damaged ones, whether regularly or just on occasion.  Also, our heartfelt appreciation to those neighbors who actively use the libraries and share books from their own collections.

You have all made the lending libraries a success!

GOLF CARTS AND YOUNG DRIVERS

People young and old alike are out enjoying the warmer temperatures. If you or a family member are out and about on a golfcart please be sure to be careful of traffic and as a reminder, those driving a golfcart should be of driving age and a licensed driver. Have fun but be safe!
