What's Happening at the Capitol?
There are many bills which will be going into effect on July 1, 2022, and I think it is important to inform you of those. Below are brief descriptions of some of these bills, and a link to view a more extensive list. In the coming weeks, I will be highlighting many more of these bills and their effects on my social media profiles. You can follow along at Senator Ferrell Haile on Facebook, @haileforsenate on Twitter, and @senferrellhaile on Instagram.
Senate Bill 2158 by Senator Hensley will prohibit an LEA or public charter school, which is seeking assistance in teaching family life, from knowingly entering into an agreement with an entity that performs or induces abortions, or provides abortion referrals, funding, advocacy or other support.

Senate Bill 2491 by Senator Watson, and co-sponsored by myself and others, suspends the state’s annual license plate registration fee of $23.75 from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023. This is a financial relief measure that will only benefit Tennesseans.

Senate Bill 2055, which I sponsored with Representative Jernigan, will address neighborhood concerns about residential blasting. The new law updates blasting requirements, including adding safety processes and protocols, and it will lower vibrations, increase communications with the public, and clean up standards that have been on the books since 1975.
Sumner County awarded Donor Services Recognition
On June 3, Sumner County, Tennessee was recognized as the first-ever Tennessee Donor Services and Donate Life Tennessee County! Our community has rallied together to Be The Gift and support organ and tissue donation. I am proud to be a part of such a giving community.
Gallatin Juneteenth Celebration
It was a pleasure to join the Sumner County Branch NAACP at their 2022 Juneteenth celebration. The event was packed with delicious food and great company. I was glad to participate as a judge for the barbecue competition, and I enjoyed trying the variety of recipes prepared. The contestants truly knocked it out of the park. Juneteenth is an important day of remembrance in our country, and I was glad to celebrate alongside our local NAACP branch.
Roe v. Wade Overturned
On Friday, the United States Supreme Court issued a ruling which overturns Roe v. Wade. This ruling allows each state to make the decision to regulate or prohibit abortion. In Tennessee this ruling triggers the Human Life Protection Act, which I co-sponsored in 2019. The Human Life Protection Act effectively bans all abortions in Tennessee, unless the life of the mother is at risk. I am proud to have been a co-sponsor of this Act, and I fully support the Supreme Court's decision.
Legislative Overview Discussions
I have enjoyed spending time in the district over the past few weeks. I have had the great privilege of visiting with many groups and discussing the effects of some of the bills passed during the 112th General Assembly, including the FY 22-23 budget. These conversations have reminded me how blessed I am to serve District 18, and I am genuinely grateful.

I would be happy to present to your group as well; if you're interested, email [email protected] or call (615)741-1999 to schedule.
Southern Regional Education Board Meeting
I was glad to join fellow Tennessee Senators and Representatives as well as legislators from other states at the 2022 meeting of the Southern Regional Education Board. During this meeting, we spent time discussing options for teacher licensure reciprocity. This discussion was built from Senate Bill 479 which Representative Weaver and I co-sponsored during the 112th General Assembly. Because of these discussions, teachers will have the ability to obtain a license which is equivalent to that of the state they come from, as long as it is a state which has a reciprocal agreement with Tennessee. I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve on regional boards such as this one and share our ideas, experiences, and successes with other states.
