Park features can be seen taking shape on the construction site for the Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park, currently under construction on Evergreen Mills Road in Arcola.
Last month, members of DTCI’s facilities construction group gave me a tour of the park to view features and construction progress. The tour stopped at five areas throughout the massive 257-acre park.
When complete, features of park will include:
- 17 lighted athletic fields, including two artificial turf fields and one cricket field;
- Five ponds;
- The historic Hanson House;
- An event lodge and nature center;
- A skate plaza and disc golf course;
- A splash pad and playground with inclusive features; and
- Over 75 acres of passive recreational space.
The project is still on track to be completed in the Spring of 2022!
Work on park features currently includes the construction of boardwalks/piers, mulching at trails, installation of synthetic turf at Championship Fields, and fine grading at the splashpad. Crews continue to install the irrigation system and lighting at all athletic fields.
Construction of the structures located throughout the park currently includes installation of concrete masonry walls, stonework, columns and metal decking, roofing, fire protection, utility rough-in, and ductwork. At Hanson House, crews have begun framing the second floor and front porch and pouring front porch concrete. Work to install exterior siding continues.
Ongoing work throughout the park includes earthwork, asphalt paving, curb and gutter installation, and the spreading of topsoil and mulch.
