HIGHLIGHTED EVENTS
Law Enforcement Torch Run: 25th Anniversary
Over 2,000 Law Enforcement personnel from 195 Law Enforcement agencies throughout Northern California ran the Special Olympics Torch, the "Flame of Hope" through their communities bringing awareness and raising funds for Special Olympics! SAL deputies, volunteers and Sheriff's Office personnel represented big on June 20th during the Law Enforcement Torch Run. SAL Deputy Walls definitely raised awareness, and her heart rate, as she ran over six miles while proudly waving the Sheriff's Office flag! The Law Enforcement Torch Run raised a record-breaking $405, 200 for the Special Olympics Northern California.
Special Olympics
Opening Day
SAL volunteer, Tammy Hinds, along with SSO personnel, travelled to Stevens Stadium at Santa Clara University for the Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies on June 24th. Athletes and attendees received a special surprise visit from event speaker and former SF 49er player, Ronnie Lott. Athletes, volunteers and Special Olympics supports had a great time celebrating the kick start to the 2022 games. SAL wishes all the athletes great success!
Unity in the Community
Triple digits could not keep the community of Rancho Murieta away from free food, a raffle giveaway and outdoor fun as the Sheriff's Office, along with the Sheriff's Activities League, hosted its second Unity in the Community of 2022. The day was a huge success, with community members participating in a bike raffle, courtesy of Walmart on Gerber Road in Sacramento. SAL would like to thank all the community members who came out and voted the Sheriff's Office Hi-Tech Crimes booth as the "People's Choice" for best booth of the day! Lastly, SAL would like to thank all the volunteers who continuously assist in making all the Unity in the Community events a smooth production. Preparations for last two Unity in the Community events are underway- contact Deputy Wojnar for more information.
Kops-N-Kids Summer Sports Camp
SAL deputies could be seen at Rosemont High School coaching soccer, volleyball, and planning demonstrations at the Kops-N-Kids sports camp the week of June 27th. Campers, ages 8 to 14 years old, enjoyed learning new sports skills from their law enforcement coaches and interacting with officers one-on-one during the week long camp. The Junior Cadets, coached by SAL Deputy Wojnar, and SSO deputies Buksh and Robinson, were the campers of the week and took pride in having their name added to the Kops-N-Kids annual camp trophy. COMMUNITY EVENTS
Broke Ball at The
Boys & Girls Club
SAL was a proud sponsor of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento signature fundraising event "The Broke Ball." This event showcased everything the Boys and Girls Clubs are all about: casual setting for a day filled with easy fun for the entire community! SAL members from the Florin Law Academy, Young Marines, and Youth Leadership Council assisted SAL deputies & volunteers to help make this drive thru event one to remember!
SCHOOL EVENTS
Teacher Appreciation BBQ
SAL deputies fired up the grill and cooked over 1,000 hot dogs for the staff at Barrett Ranch Elementary, in appreciation for all they do throughout the school year! The students at Barrett Ranch enjoyed seeing the SAL vehicles and talking with SAL Deputy Briggs and Wojnar.
Pasadena Elementary
SAL deputies arrived at Pasadena Elementary School for S.A.L. (Smiles At Lunch) on June 1st. Students gathered around the SAL humvee, eager to see inside, while they received stickers from SAL Deputy Walls. Dyer-Kelly Field Day
SAL deputies joined in on the elementary school fun at Dyer-Kelly's end of the year field day on June 3rd. The SAL humvee provided music and a photo opportunity as students and SAL deputies played kicked ball, bowling, and many more outdoor activities.

Adreani Elementary School Safety Presentation
SAL deputies ventured out to the Vineyard area in the southern part of Sacramento County on June 9th to give a safety presentation at Adreani Elementary School. SAL deputies talked about when to call 9-1-1, described the tools on a deputy's duty belt and answered questions from the students. Every student left with knowledge, swag and a smile!
SAL SCHOLARSHIPS
SAL Director Cary Trzcinski presented a $750 SAL Scholarship to Laguna Creek High School graduate Madison Benitez, who will be attending UC Davis is the fall. Go Aggies!
SAL Director Cary Trzcinski presented a $1,000 SAL Scholarship to Franklin High School graduate Audrey Vang, who will be attending UC Irvine is the fall.

Florin Law Academy (FLA)
Internship Program
Nine SAL members from the Florin Law Academy were accepted into the Elk Grove Civic Summer Internship Program, facilitated through Elk Grove Unified School District. Participants attended a two week seminar training in June to prepare for their real world working internships in July. SAL/YSU is excited to welcome FLA seniors Merissa Posh and Rosabell Davis to the team as interns in July!
YOUNG MARINES
Team Building
The Young Marines continued their renovation efforts at their satellite facility this past month. Additionally, the Young Marines headed north to Tru Aim Airsoft of Roseville for a day of adventure, exercise and camaraderie. SAL would like to thank the Young Marines for all their assistance at the June community events.

Youth Leadership Council
Participants in the SAL Youth Leadership Council (YLC) continue to develop their leadership skills as they give back to the community. YLC met twice in June and discussed how their efforts could be best utilized at all the June community events. YLC members were the first volunteers to arrive at the UIC event in Rancho Murieta and were some of the last to leave. SAL commends the members of YLC for all their efforts to help make their communities stronger.
