Dear Neighbor,

Happy Halloween! As many families complete final costume preparations and stock their candy bowls for tomorrow's trick-or-treaters, public safety remains of utmost importance. Trick-or-treating hours in the City are from 3:00pm to 8:00pm and to ensure Halloween is a safe and fun experience, the Chicago Police Department provides safety tips to follow.

Costumes:  If you have a dark costume, place reflective tape in several parts of the costume -- across the back and on the front and sides.

Location: Visit homes in your neighborhood and never enter a home to receive a treat; stay on the porch or the sidewalk outside the door.

Treats: Allow your child to accept only treats that are wrapped. Be sure to throw away any fresh fruit and any treat that looks suspicious.

Walk, do not run! Always wait at the curb and look both ways before crossing the street. Cross the street at the corner and do not cut in between parked cars. Obey all traffic lights.

If you are driving on Halloween, please use extra caution and be alert for any children who may be in the street!

And, of course, have fun! I'm looking forward to seeing many trick-or-treaters out and about tomorrow!
